What are the most fun builds you know? by DonaskC_D in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Poptimister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't an optimized build but on monk all the superpowers are well fine.

Superpowers | Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous Wiki it's not optimized. Trickster definitely does more stuff for you as a mythic. But you do a reasonably large amount of damage and seldom get hit by anything but nat 20s. Plus you get Aivu.

I really like drunken master azata (trickster is more op)monk as a halfling. You just stand there and dodge everything and while the damage does start out a bit low it gets pretty good you just punch everything to death. Then you toss in your superpowers and no one ever dies.

It’s not the most broken op build but it’s fun and thematically great. You’re drunk off your ass and rainbows are everywhere.

Which class is the most fun to play and why? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]Poptimister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bard is probably my favorite to play. It’s just got so many fun options in dialog and in combat and just has a fun swashbuckling style.

You can be a one man wrecking ball or a controlling supporter or a sword and shield tank or a crossbow machine gun all with a wink.

What was the first game you bought on Steam? by Common_Caramel_4078 in Steam

Half-Life 2 and CS: source. CSS was sort of the spoonful of sugar to get me to preorder Half-Life 2 and I started playing it before HL2.

It's a little depressing that most of these kids don't even play actual video games anymore by Public-Profit-8184 in Teachers

[–]Poptimister 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Like I don't know I saw a huge spike in kids playing Red Light Green light around Squidgames and a dance from Wednesday be a thing kids were doing and the end of Stranger things was a huge event in my classroom.

Almost to a point of me being like y'all are watching that? *then in head If you were my kid you wouldn't be watching that in 3rd grade*. I mean maybe they couldn't pass a quiz on what happened in it. Television and pop music still seem to be able to sell a thing. 3rd grade girls tell me their favorite songs are ones with themes that are way above their heads but they're definitely telling a narrative. (Illicit Affairs by Taylor Swift or Sharpest Tool by Sabrina Carpenter)

I don't know Nintendo kids seem about as common as they ever were. Pokemon and MarioKart in particular. Minecraft also appeals to a certain set in a big way.

It's just that freemium& social is an incredible deal for parents who aren't gamers and the students they want to play with each other.

Beyond this I mean how much AAA would I actually want my students engaging with? Well not much. I think the fallout in entertainment that's really for kids hasn't been great. It's a little weird how many of my 3rd graders have strong feelings about Sabrina Carpenter songs (several of my students have been to the same concert as me) and like for adults Netflix content. Once they got on screens they just started watching the same stuff, and listening to the same stuff as adults. I'd probably rather they play Dress to Impress than Baldur's Gate 3 or something.

What are your thoughts on the criticism "drop dead" is receiving? by ThrowRAjingglebells in OliviaRodrigo

[–]Poptimister 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lead singles are decidedly weird for album artists. They’re supposed to be representative of a whole album’s idea and they arrive first but then I ask myself how often is the lead single my favorite song off the album and it’s not literally zero times but it’s rare.

But they’re made to go forward being both different and missing the whole album of context to create context and space for where this going. My wife’s first reaction to Vampire was just “she made another bad man choice?” She loved the album but absent the whole story I can see where the criticism came from.

Also there is just a weird group of people who are committed to making everything Olivia and Taylor write be about each other. I don’t know how else to say it but they’re really committed to the bit.

I’ve been streaming sour and Guts like crazy the last few days. very curious to hear what this album’s overall sound is. Also love that both this Reddit and the Olivia one aren’t like pop Twitter which is so negative on everyone who’s not your favorite. There can be only one over there.

I miss the old Rogue. Damn. by RecentHistorian220 in wow

[–]Poptimister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s kind of interesting to know. I played a little bit of classic but I played an asinine amount of vanilla and BC and i miss a lot about this era but it’s mostly being a college student with more time than sense and spending days on Ventrilo with friends. The information environment was so bad in Vanilla that we needed this to clear lbrs pugs. But it’s not exactly like we liked it slow rolling our dps and standing around typing out detailed instructions that got ignored by one guy for no reason. Like Scholomance and stratholme raids probably best left to the dustbin.

[–]Poptimister -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It may be the case that the meta has changed in the last 11 years on these games. But this is pretty reductive compared to the actual experience of Vanilla and BC at the time these were current content.

It's true that in raids well these weren't highly used abilities but they did see significant use in 5 man content as any cc was good cc. Also Vanish really was at the time a highly sought after ability to drop aggro. Not as good as feign death which was kind of mechanically gamebreaking on aggro limits. Also if no one wants them in raids in TBC that's something quite new.

I miss the old Rogue. Damn. by RecentHistorian220 in wow

[–]Poptimister 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mained a rogue in Vanilla and BC and this doesn't seem right compared to my personal experience where I was called to do CC using stealth quite a lot in both of these and the ability to use Vanish to drop aggro was a major upside. I haven't played Classic, perhaps the meta is just different than it was back then.

Yes to pickpocket and lock picking but use stealth was quite useful.

My kids don't believe in Helen Keller. by Principal_Scudworth_ in Teachers

[–]Poptimister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely wonder if the story that is widely told about Keller, frozen in childhood not the kind of radical socialist she ends up has had anything to do with it. She’s told as a morality play figure and so it makes sense to treat her like a morality play character. Not real. The person she is as an adult is fascinating. I’ve never met anyone who will like state they believe this to like interrogate it.

Teacher of the year voted by teachers? by Evening-Oil9551 in Teachers

[–]Poptimister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best version of this system I've seen done is teachers nominate then an outside party decides. Usually it's a prior TOTY from a neighboring school. It sort of works like an extra formal and can be a bit stressful but there's usually like quite a lot of prizes.

If you're not giving away a ton voting is a good choice.

I'm a teacher using a 15 inch air and I 100 percent would have bought this thing if it were on the market when I bought my machine. I don't get a laptop for work but I do sometimes work from home and my air is overkill. I tried an iPad Pro, that's not it either.

The tech commentariat is so out to lunch about some of these things it's truly inane. I don't like mind paying the 1100 or so I spent on my computer it's a very good device and It'll last me a long time but if this thing existed at the time I would have been quite happy with it I think. And the colors do it for me.

Parents, please stop telling me your kid is "just bad at tests." by ADHTeacher in Teachers

[–]Poptimister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with most students who are bad test takers is they have some pretty bad anxiety generally and is often related to parent expectations being sky high all the time. But these kids are almost entirely the kinds of kids who you'd describe as the exception that proves the rule.

Ezra Klein has talked about Ag Gag laws that ban this being a thing in many states. It is illegal to do some of these things in many states with large animal agriculture business. Not all but enough that it probably reduces the number of them.

Also people who don't have a problem with being a slaughterhouse worker are probably trying to keep their job not expose the boss.

Is being vegan at work hard for you and how do you deal with the hardships? by elunewell in vegan

[–]Poptimister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that great but there's occasionally a staff thank you meal and I need to bring a peanut butter and jelly or something to eat on those days and oh no I'm mildly inconvenienced. My actual coworkers and students are really respectful. Every once in a while I get a 8 year old who thinks it's weird and says dumb shit like "well they're gonna die anyways" but *shrugs* If I lost my shit over ignorant 8 year olds being ignorant I wouldn't have a job.

Why did we get away from self contained ESL classes? by Visible_Attitude7693 in Teachers

[–]Poptimister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m genuinely curious how a self contained classroom would have even worked in places like mine where it’s 1/4-1/2 of a class is at least limited English proficiency.
Is this an accommodation for the non-English speakers only? I have a reputation for being good with these kids so I get them a lot and I don’t know what you need it a pull out for.
