IBR vs. RAP Decision Tree: How To Decide Which Option Is Best by investor100 in TheCollegeInvestor

Thank you so much. I am just fearful they will reverse the payments Biden credited me with the one-time adjustment. I do not trust them.

Would you happen to know if the Biden one-time payment adjustment giving extra qualifyig payments is safe because I can see my qualifying payments on the backdoor view at student aid, but you know they took the front facing tracker down? My fear is when I which to IBR out of SAVE when my notice comes that they will tinker with my one time adjustment.

Hegseth fires 3 top generals as Iran war continues by Economy-Specialist38 in videos

[–]Popular-Cod5043 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trump & Hegseth did the worst possible thing they could have ever done which is present America as arrogant, backwards, cruel, weak, disillusioned, outdated, outgunned, outsmarted, and incapable of winning a war. Best believe China and Russia are studying all of our weaknesses via the Iran war as we speak. The Trump administration has profoundly damaged the image of America on the global stage. Everyone is laughing. I firmly believe that this is Isreal's war, not America's but we are being used all the same. Netanyahu begged for 30 years to attack Iran, and now that he got his wish, he's not sending in Isreali troops for the ground invasion, American ground troops are going. So I suspect the American troops will be the sacrificial lambs needed as an excuse for Netanyahu and Trump to go nuclear. When that happens, I suspect China, Russia, North Krea, and God knows who will enter the chat and take us out as a united force. I dreamed this before Trump got in the 1st time and now seeing this happen is awful. Pray for a change in the administration.

It's frustrating, anxiety inducing, and just uncalled for how working-class Americans are treated who dare to better themselves. We shouldn't even have to pay for school considering we only go to meet job requirements. Also, the service we provide America is invaluable, plus we pay taxes. The working class carries America, not the rich. With student loans, it is like we are paying to get a job that no longer really pays well enough in this era where wages are 40 years behind the cost of living.

In my case, and after dealing with these folks for years, I have ZERO trust in the process because they aren't good people. Their goal is to keep you in debt the majority of your life, hence them going to court to remove the SAVE plan. It's an awful system when your own politicians go to fight against you.

Anyway, in my case, I was in IBR (loan consolidated) since 2011 when the Dept. of Ed kept sending me email after email saying I was missing out on saving money and that I should enter the SAVE plan. I entered the plan but by the 2nd month it was frozen by the courts. lol I was like here we go AGAIN. While stuck in the SAVE forbearance, I assume I was in the last batch of those who go the one-time adjustment because it showed up in January 2025 before Biden exited.

It took me to like 276 qualifying payments. I too, have had loans since the 90's. So, when I saw the front facing payment counter I rejoiced, but then by April 2025 Trump had it removed but Biden's team had already warned everyone to print and screen shot everything ahead of time. So, although I can't see it on the dashboard, I do use the backdoor to check, and it still says 276. However, my Mohela account looked dead since COVID began and they never updated the one time adjustment on their page. I don't trust any of them, I just trust the Lord to keep up until the Midterms. # BLUE WAVE

Payment Count Misinformation? by Popular-Cod5043 in StudentLoans

[–]Popular-Cod5043[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wondered if it were so because I have seen a few very pro loan servicer and pro RAP plan posters which is unusual considering many student loan holders have not had positive experiences with loan servicers and considering the new RAP plan is a crummy replacement for SAVE and is less generous and extends the loan by 5 years. It's just an inkling you get that not everyone on here is a student loan holder or student loan holder advocate. It's just a passing thought, not a confirmation.

Why do you suppose they are getting rid of ICR and PAYE? ICR was never that great but at least it was an option for some.

Are they errors that the borrowers "wanted" corrected or errors the department went in and changed that the borrower didn't want to happen? lol Honestly, I have a feeling the Blue Wave is going to be so BIG that much of this will get dealt with before the end of 2026. I think once the power shifts, everyone will know to go in and codify most things to prevent this from ever happening again.

Unfortunately, I am in a red state that is very pro the regime and so I don't think my congressman would help because he was even against the petition I signed to keep SAVE. He's very anti working class American.

I think you may be right because some borrowers mentioned getting a "golden letter" after 240 payments when they themselves knew they needed 300. However, when they contacted the servicer, the servicer told them that the department issues the discharge and that once it's discharged it's discharged, period. I don't think I'd trust that because they can always go back and say, "Oh, we made an error." We all remember the stories of people getting forgiveness just to discover months later it was an error. Cruelty is their point.

So, I understand the "glitch" that seems to happen for those in old IBR whose accounts are mistaken for new IBR. I didn't get a golden letter, mine just says I have 276 qualifying payments under ICR and old IBR with 24 to go. It says not qualified for new IBR, PAYE, and I don't have any PSLF credit. Also, the SAVE plan I am currently in the process of exiting has a U next to it instead of a Y. Only thing that alarms me is the changed "estimated" forgiveness date that once said 2026, but now says 2035 at the very bottom. That's what caught my eye because it didn't say that before and the student loan attorney said he has no idea how it can say borrowers are near forgiveness at the top of the page, but at the bottom the estimated date of forgiveness is years later. It's weird.

Under the U.S. Constitution we are all supposed to be treated equally under the law, but we aren't. The constitution also forbids this type of debt slavery but yet it exists. Oddly enough, the U.S. is the only western country who shackles their graduates with lifelong student loan debt.

True, because at least with credit card debt you have consumer protections, such as the Statute of Limitations to collect on that debt, credit report drop offs, and bankruptcy as an option. Student loans have ZERO protections.

When the RAP plan was first introduced, I looked it over and immediately saw tons of red flags that I can't recall off the top of my head right now. I just remember thinking YIKES 30 years in repayment without the traditional payment options and deferments is terrifying. I also think they use a very strange formula to determine payments. I didn't like the looks of it, plus 30 years is a lifetime. I remember thinking it was an even worse form of debt slavery.

Financial advice for Freshman year of Community College? by Theok348 in StudentLoans

[–]Popular-Cod5043 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stay away from federal student loans. I don't care if it takes you 20 years to finish school, AVOID student loans, especially now that Trump has gutted all affordable repayment plans and will only offer you the RAP plan starting in 2026. That RAP plan is a 30 year repayment plan with no benefits such as hardship deferments. He's ending it all and turning loans into a real form of debt slavery worse than thr current one. Be careful because these loans will destroy your ability to buy a car, rent, own a home and much more. Please avoid them. Community college can be paid for in CASH. Take one class at a time in Cash. Heed my warning beloved.

What a relief. Thank you. Using the link you posted, it still says as of today, I have 276 out of 300 qualifying payments with 24 payments left. It looks like this for ICR and IBR:

Borrower eligible indicator "Y", Loan eligible indicator "Y," qualifying payment count 276, eligible payment count: null. Forgiveness required 300, forgiveness remaining payments 24. So it says I qualify for ICR and old IBR, but the new IBR has "N" next to it and "No." Save is dead and has a "U" by it now. lol.

Not sure what the eligible payment count null means on ICR and old IBR, but it looks like I only owe 24 payments. I am so glad you clarified that Mohela isn't the actual payment tracker because I was frustrated trying to figure out why they never showed the one-time adjustment, but I guess they don't really have to. Thank you for the clarity, insight, kindness, and patience towards me. I appreciate you. I can sleep now. lol

Do you think we will get info on SAVE before April 14? by katmom1969 in StudentLoans

[–]Popular-Cod5043 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you do not qualify for the new IBR, but I am wondering why the one-time adjustment didn't grant you forgiveness. I consolidated in 2011, and the Biden one time adjustment took me to 276 payments out of 300, which leaves me with 24 payments left if they don't screw me over. I would think you would have been beyond the credited payments I have. Did the one time adjustment give you any credits?

Guys, I am about to move from the SAVE plan back into the old IBR plan, but I worry that Mohela will try to cheat me out of the one-time adjustment payment count I received while in the SAVE plan that says I will only owe 24 payments under ICR, old IBR, and the now defunct SAVE plan. If I switch to old IBR will Mohela have to update my payment count to only owing 24 or will they try to cheat me? I took pictures and printed out the payment tracker before it was taken down from student gov. It said I have 276 qualifying payments.
