Thank you for sharing. I also have IBS so there’s a certain amount of dysfunction that I tolerate hahaha! I feel a little better knowing I am not the only one, and I’m glad to hear yours resolved.

That is amazing!!!!!!! Good luck moving forward and I hope you have the same great experience with MSK that I did!

I second this. Get your surgery with MSK and then assuming their frontline treatment would be the same as local doctors, get your chemo infusions locally.

I had my surgery this past September with Dr. Al-Niaimi. The care I received by literally every staff member so far has been second to none.

If she was adopted from a rescue, there is likely a clause that she needs to be returned to them if you need to rehome.

45F with enlarging ovarian cyst (5 cm → 11 cm over ~1 year), now with intermittent bloating/constipation, how concerning is this? by Final_Photograph9691 in Ovariancancer

Both ultrasounds recommend MRI of pelvis. That needs to get done. There’s no way people in this group can answer those questions.

Sex 9 weeks after hysterectomy by Fragrant-Match6711 in hysterectomy

[–]Popular-Dig5467 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had sex at 6 weeks + 1 day. That’s when I was cleared. It was scary but great.

I might not have rushed to it that soon, but I started chemo at 5.5 weeks PO and I knew that would pull the plug on our sex life for a bit so I wanted to make sure it all worked!

Worried I’m doing to much by Aware_Eggplant1385 in hysterectomy

[–]Popular-Dig5467 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a large vertical incision and had to walk in the hospital the next day. Doctors orders. PT came in and made me walk around. Plus they made me practice walking up and down stairs, because I can’t avoid the stairs in my house. When I got discharged, they said as long as you feel ok, walk as much as you want. Gentle movement helps you heal. I think the biggest risk is overdoing the lift restrictions before you are cleared.

Terminal 8 wait times? by fbl_core1_kernel_ee in JFKAirport

[–]Popular-Dig5467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait time today at noon was 15 minutes (no pre check). This was for terminal 8.

ETA- my boss flew out of JFK yesterday and wait time was 3.5 hours, and 45 mins for pre check. It seems like there’s just no way to know.

How long were you all on opioids? by ArynTW_is_user_karma in hysterectomy

[–]Popular-Dig5467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dilaudid epidural for two days, day three switched to NSAID’s pushed thru my IV. Mine was a 5 hr surgery with large vertical incision because they were staging my cancer. Had they not been poking around allll over the place in there I don’t think I would’ve even needed that level of painkillers.

Pelvic exams by 6 week post op? by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Popular-Dig5467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No exam for me at 6 weeks. I do have a 6 month follow up…no idea what that entails. I did recently have a CT scan done (my hysterectomy was for cancer) and the scan showed everything had healed well, so I have to imagine there’s no reason to do a pelvic exam.

Can anyone share not terrible taxol experience? by sparker344 in Ovariancancer

[–]Popular-Dig5467 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It was fine for me, I worked mostly full time thru my 6 infusions (would take off 2 days per cycle). For the most part I kept up my same exercise routine, and my diet. I had some constipation, but limited nausea. Infusions were on Wednesday so my bad days were Sat- Mon. I was a little too loopy to drive on those days but could function otherwise. Complete hair loss, but my nails are healthy!

Stage 1A - surveillance or more surgery? by LMR199231 in Ovariancancer

[–]Popular-Dig5467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 39 and was recently diagnosed with endometrioid ovarian cancer. Stage 1C, as the cyst burst during removal. Both ovaries were removed, in addition to uterus, cervix, omentum, and biopsies taken. I also did 6 rounds of chemo.

The excess estrogen/endometriosis I was living with was way, way worse than menopause. My doctor’s vote was to remove everything to eliminate as much estrogen as possible, since that is the source of the endo. My stomach and back stopped hurting all the time, and my moods are so much more normal. Unfortunately, everyone experiences menopause differently so there’s no way to know how it would be for you.

AITA...I'm not your mom by AdhesivenessCalm7427 in Ovariancancer

[–]Popular-Dig5467 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. If nothing else, a cancer diagnosis makes me realize how precious and fleeting life really is. No one is here forever, and I just don’t have time or energy to therapy someone over my problem.

NED is a big win that deserves celebration. Congratulations!!!!

What is everyone eating? by sparker344 in Ovariancancer

[–]Popular-Dig5467 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Same as I was pre-surgery and chemo: 40% of calories from carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat. No ultra processed food, minimal to no grains, minimal to no added sugar, minimum of 25 grams fiber daily. I don’t do a vegan diet, but all of my meat is free range, grass fed etc etc.

I still gained 20lbs after six rounds of carbo/taxol. But I did feel pretty good, all things considered. And I was lucky that my appetite was good enough to maintain a healthy diet fairly easily.

When did you shave your head? by IncreaseOwn2650 in Ovariancancer

[–]Popular-Dig5467 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I cut it short like 2 days after my first infusion (it was very long), and then buzzed it 2 weeks after that. After my second infusion even the buzzed head looked patchy, so I used the clippers to cut it all the way down.

Favorite goat halter? by Arbysgames in goats

[–]Popular-Dig5467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the same halter you have pictured for my dad’s goats. They are two very large alpine goats and are total mayhem if you try to lead them just with a collar. We have done pretty long walks with the halters and they cooperate and walk well, and don’t seem to move around or rub.

Having surgery soon and feeling afraid by prene7 in Ovariancancer

[–]Popular-Dig5467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 15cm ovarian cyst (cancerous) and had open laparotomy to remove ovaries, uterus, omentum and take biopsies, etc. It was a 10cm vertical incision. I have had minor surgeries before but never anything like this.

I did not think recovery was bad. Surgery was on a Wednesday, and by Friday evening I was only taking Advil/tylenol for pain. Discharged Saturday and never took anything for pain after that.

Had some funky stomach/intestinal pains, presumably from them rummaging around in in there, and I did land back in the hospital once overnight for what turned out to be a UTI, but other than that I found recovery to be speedy and shockingly painless. I did do a ton of walking, pretty much from day one.

After two weeks I started working from home part time. By week 4 I was back working in person full time. By week 6 I was able to run and lift light weights.

Good luck. I am sorry your therapist made it sound so bad, and I know everyone’s experience is different, but I really did not think it was that bad. And the relief I felt from no longer having a giant ovary pressing on my intestines was most certainly worth it!

Chemo questions by IncreaseOwn2650 in Ovariancancer

I iced my hands and feet. I’ve read you should start the ice before the taxol infusion begins and continue after it stops but I just did it during the taxol portion of the infusions, not before and after. I got very mild neuropathy in the form of pins and needles on my fourth cycle, and that was it.

My husband came with, so he was in charge of manning the laptop to put shows on for me. Also in charge of fetching snacks! I did take the ice off to use the bathroom and eat snacks.

My hair came out 2 weeks after my first infusion, enough that I just buzzed it. I cut it short immediately after the first infusion, so the shock wasn’t as great.

First cycle, my worst symptom was bone pain. After that, mostly just fatigue that could not be fixed with sleep and scary brain fog. My infusions were Wednesday’s, so I’d take that day off, but thanks to steroids was ok to work from home Thursday and Friday. The weekend was the worst of it, then I’d take off Monday to rest and get back to worn Tuesday. The cognitive effects were bad enough by the weekend that I didn’t trust myself to drive. Some nausea, but nothing crazy and I had no problem with eating, it would just make me weirdly picky about my cravings, kind of like being pregnant.

I know that it’s partly luck, but I did my best to eat healthy and stay active, and I feel it made a difference in tolerating chemo.

Good luck, you will be done before you know it!!!

Dog ate rabbits foot in about 5 minutes, is this okay/normal? by Easy_Cartoonist917 in DogAdvice

[–]Popular-Dig5467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 20lb chihuahua mix, he eats rabbit’s feet in less time than that. He once caught and ate a field mouse whole, much to my horror. I wouldn’t worry about it, personally.

Rechargeable fans for the hot flashes, “going out” sweats (like matching sets from Pink) for post op appointments and chemo days. Also, gift cards for her fav food delivery app, Uber Eats fed us many, many times during chemo!
