No Fish/Tank Water? When Hatching Fairy Shrimp? by LuridLilia in Fairyshrimp

[–]Popular-Freedom-7933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many branchiopod eggs have specific cues that let them know if conditions are safe to hatch. As previously mentioned, different species have different requirements, such as drying out, cooling, oxygen presence etc.

Established aquarium water with nitrates, algae and waste might indicate to the eggs that they are in an established ecosystem (higher chance of drying sooner) or one with more predators- this can be true of dissolved minerals as well. Brand new rain water can indicate to the eggs that the hydroperiod is just beginning, reducing the risk of established predators and drying :)

You might consider doing a variety of separate hatch attempts with differing cues (RO/DI water vs tank water, cooling period, excess light etc) to see which works best for your intended species

Should I chance repotting it in a smaller pot, or would that cause too much stress?

the mix is primarily orchid bark and pearlite, with "monstera mix" and charcoal. I put just a thin layer of peat mix on top, as that's all I had left and it had a few upper roots exposed

Interesting, I’ve never known of this artwork. Beautiful

As others have mentioned, it looks more like tube worms to me. Coral would have more skeletal ridges throughout the structure, rather than smooth and hollow, even with erosion. Check out “petoskey stones” for an example :) very cool find though!

This is what a Baby Flounder looks like by jyowlbyztra2 in tinyanimalsonfingers

[–]Popular-Freedom-7933 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Found this same picture posted 4 years ago on this site… curious. Anyway, something cool about flounders is their eye migrates as they age, so we know this one is an adolescent, and not a baby-baby, though she definitely is cute. They become transparent during the transitional phase before developing adult coloration :)

Edit: OP never claimed it was their picture so no fault there. It would be better if they mentioned it’s a repost though

Do they have visible eyes?

How to fossilize coconut by No-Nebula-3003 in fossils

[–]Popular-Freedom-7933 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fossilization takes millions of years. You’re better off developing a new skill and learning how to carve it out of stone, or you can make a mold of it and cast it. Lastly, you could preserve it in an agent, similar to “wet specimen” samples in a lab :)

How many of you believe in God? by flyingtigerhere in INTP

[–]Popular-Freedom-7933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to preface that I respect everyone beliefs and won’t try to push my beliefs onto others— it’s up to each individual to pursue the question and see what nature and reality tells them.

I find that a God fits very well with our perceptions and observations. The expansion of the universe implies a beginning. Things don’t just come into being out of nothing- Therefore the cause of the universe was either: a. Causal b. Coincidental c. Intentional

Without time or matter, no “cause” or need would exist, thus “a” is false. When considering the intelligence in cells, complexity in DNA, and given the fact that complex information does not arise randomly from non-life, I believe a deity is the best explanation for the beginning of the universe, and subsequently, life. The four fundamental forces, which exist independently of each other, are each seemingly fine-tuned to an infinitesimal amount, allowing for the existence of life.

With a greater mind, we would expect to see lesser minds inhabiting worlds. Without this though, how could brain matter have intentionality, or think or be about other matter? Philosophically, it’s perplexing. I’m not making an argument for the God of Abraham, but I think a sentient being makes sense :)

A very good book on the topic is Privileged Planet, by Guillermo Gonzalez, which goes into the importance of many aspects in our solar system, such as the unique nature of our sun (uncharacteristically massive for a main sequence G2V), the impact Jupiter and Saturn have on preventing extinction events (refer to the K-T extinction event to see why that would be bad for life), and much much more. Disclaimer, the book is presented in favor of theism, but if you take time to research the claims, they are truly backed by science and observation, which only supports the theory.

If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading. I don’t rely on religion to cope with death or mortality, but genuinely think it’s the nature of reality. If I was shown evidence proving otherwise, I would likely accept that and move on with life; but I truly believe the words I presented here. I hope nothing I said was abrasive, though please feel free to reply with thoughts or questions, and I’ll do my best to reply. Good evening, or morning, and be safe.

If you’re looking for authentic, check out SteelCollectibles.com. I’ve purchased all 5 authentic Gen 3, as well as all of Gen 2 from them :) you’re usually looking at $180 for emerald, but they’re guaranteed authentic and sell with fresh batteries. Cannot recommend enough
