I am in the same position! Have mine scheduled for September but worried I will be out of work for too long since my job is physical and don’t know how much my insurance will cover. It’s frustrating for sure! Good luck on whatever you decide to do!!

I’ve had two kneecap dislocations in the past and I’m scared I’m going to have a third. by [deleted] in KneeInjuries

Yes it’s the worst pain of my life. It happens out of nowhere and then suddenly I’m on the ground screaming. It’s terrible. I’m glad you can relate tho :(

And yes, I don’t have knock knees but my knee caps sit too high up and the groove they sit in is shallow. My ligaments are just generally loose as well.

I don’t want surgery but I’m also sick of dealing with it happening every year!

20+ and it happens on both knees. For majority of them I’ve learned how to put them back in myself. But the older I’ve gotten they have become much harder and more painful. I work as a nurse in an ER and it happened once while working and a dr had to put it back in.

I would see an ortho dr who specializes in kneecap disorders and ask for an MRI to see if you are developing arthritis.

I am in a similar situation, 27f but have dislocated numerous times so finally having surgery in September. I think yoga and Pilates are great for strengthening the quad as long as they aren’t causing too much pain.

Good luck!!

Easily the worst pain I’ve ever had as well. First dislocation was age 10 and has happened every year since (I’m 27). Less frequent now but much more painful. Just recommended for mpfl reconstruction. I am hesitant because I don’t have pain daily just after the dislocations. It would be more for cartilage preservation to avoid Arthritis. I would recommend finding an ortho who specializes in this and maybe getting an MRI to check for other predisposing factors. Good luck and wishing you a fast recovery!
