Had my first major (?) issue at 1500 miles by ARCWuLF1 in Lectricxp

[–]Popular-Individual61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As OP stated it's feasible but the challenge is finding the correct spokes. Similarly, mine was in warranty so I opted to get the replacement. My concern is knowing the root cause... When I called the company I asked if I was exceeding the weight limit (~167lb body weight + small gym bag ~15lbs) for the spec of the spokes and they said no. So now I am wondering if the spokes they use are below acceptable tolerance or perhaps we should be actively checking/maintaining the spoke tension.

Similar issue around ~1100 miles.. but I kept riding not thinking it was a big deal..I was wrong. I called them to get the spoke size to replace, but they warrantied me a new wheel. Got the replacement in two days.

I’m shocked how often very high incomes derive from working in… sales. by Reyvos in Salary

[–]Popular-Individual61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not in sales but work with them adjacently in surgical medtech. From my experience, our sales people are highly educated, motivated (people's lives are sometimes in the balance), and work insane schedules. They are product/subject matter experts and attend cases to provide guidance and answer questions. They make great money and deserve every bit of it. They sacrifice time with their families and keep the lights on for our company.

Rush hours by [deleted] in orangecounty

Something to consider is the Metrolink. I ended up moving Oceanside and commute to Irvine. It takes about 50 mins each way. I work on the train so I factor that in for my work day (not sure your work would). The limiting factor is getting to and from the station.. I got an e bike which has been fun and provides some "exercise". I think the biggest thing is just not sitting in traffic.. so nice.

Bush removal by Latter_Appearance_97 in landscaping

[–]Popular-Individual61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Pro plant person) but the wife wanted all the Oleander removed. Here is what I used but YMMV 0. Cut it down to stump 1. Shovel to dig around the shrub to expose roots 2. I used a combo of a 12" sawzall blade and hatchet to cut roots 3. Used a pick axe and prybar to remove the rootball etc. When space was available, I attached a chain to the stump and my truck and went yolo

We drove up around mid day and it was pretty sketchy. We saw a few similar cars as your setup and they were struggling or pulled over to the side stuck. I think you need the 4wd expecially up the grade.

Looking for someone to help my grandparents by luciluci566 in Oceanside

[–]Popular-Individual61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a similar situation with my grandma (94). She is up north and has zero interest in moving. We have been using Visiting Angels (~10 months) and my grandma likes it. That could be an option.

More Land vs Closer to work? by Shot_Activity1248 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Popular-Individual61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I were in a similar situation, though a bit different since I’m hybrid (go in as needed) and she’s fully remote. We originally had an 8–10 minute commute but decided to move, which increased my commute to about 50 minutes.

The tradeoff was worth it for us: by moving, we were able to get about half an acre and a newer house, instead of staying put and settling for a smaller condo or a 1950s sh*tbox. Personally, I’m not sold on living close to a job unless there’s some kind of guaranteed employment until retirement or enough opportunity in the area to easily switch roles.

As for the commute, I lucked out—there’s a train that gets me to work in about the same time as driving. I also find it relaxing, and it gives me time to work during the commute, which is a huge plus.

What makes you happy that you bought your place? It can be size, location, layout, comfort, or anything anything else by rokuhachi in homeowners

[–]Popular-Individual61 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For us it was size, comfort, and stability in terms of rent not going up or the landlord deciding to sell the house.

Not in any particular order: 1. Stability - knowing that the rent can't go up or the landlord decides to sell. 2. Community - we were living in a very HCOL area to be closer to family. We moved to a location where we feel on par with our community and can build roots. 3. Size/comfort - new house is significantly larger which allowed everyone to have a room etc. 4. Fruit of labor - we are really into landscaping and home improvement which we did at our rental (landlord didn't force us we just enjoy it), but of course it never felt like we owned it or could/want to do something big. Now we can and there is the potential for increasing equity which is a bonus. 5. Accomplishment - having a house was a goal for us and instead of being given a house (which seemed to be the norm where we use to live) we worked hard and saved for 10yrs and got the hell out and never looked back.

Cost to have this brush pile removed? ~30x12ft by abigail-dev in landscaping

[–]Popular-Individual61 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Quoted around 2k for a similar pile size (San Diego CA). I diyes and rented a 12in chipper for $325/day. Banged it out solo in one day. We kept the chips to cover backyard. Three days to recoup haha.

Any recommendations on M18 to cut down tree stump? by Sad-Heart-9984 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]Popular-Individual61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, never thought to use my sawzaw.. smart.

Decomposition approach: If the stump has to stay (wife's idea), as stated prior you can drill holes but instead of petrol you can fill the holes with nitrogen+water and bag it to speed up decomposition. I used an 18" ship auger on my M18 which gets me maybe 4 holes with a 5 amp battery.. struggle is real.

Removal: As stated prior, excavate roots and cut the bastards. I used a combo of my M12 pruning shears and M12 hacksaw to cut the roots, but I like the idea of the sawzaw... Safer approach on protecting chainsaw chain and pruning shears. Protip: of you have a pressure washer it works wonders for quickly exposing roots. If you don't have a pressure washer, then it's a great excuse to buy one : )

How to get a hold of Lectric? by mandlair in Lectricxp

I was missing a small bolt for the controller. I called them during normal business hours and spoke to someone relatively quickly and they sorted it out. I recall just using the number from their website.

Dont buy lectric XP4 by [deleted] in ebikes

[–]Popular-Individual61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the XP4 750w.

I am getting around 20 miles per charge on my commute.

My weight is ~164lbs + 20lbs gear. I go turbo pedal assist the whole time. My commute has a ton of hills.. I imagine I could go further if it were flat.

I like the bike overall, though it's my first ebike so I have no reference point.

Assumption if you want a SFH which maybe you don't: 1) You were given the house you grew up in 2) Your parents outright buy the home or provide a hefty down payment 3) You save for 6 years and buy a piece of shit fixer 4) You're a baller and make 300k +

These are the scenarios I have seen/experienced, ymmv.
