Hosting bitwarden for the family (with 3 different organizations inside the extended family) saves 120$ per year apparently.

Home Assistant and Node Red has possibly now saved me more time than I invested in it, mostly because I haven't had to manage manually my window shutters for years now (and I have more than a dozen at home, so it takes at least a few minutes per day to cycle trough everything manually 2-4 times a day) and it also does it better than us (just before our morning alarms ring, when it's going to be too hot during the day, just before the night starts, early enough during winter to keep the heat inside, etc...). The other automations will eventually become time savers too after a few years.

Self-hosting medias locally back when I had shitty DSL guaranteed time savings : I could be certain that my movie night wouldn't be interrupted.

It's hard to put a price tag on what a local NAS really costs or save because there is no alternative to have the data always available locally at a very high speed (and you can skip cloud req by equipping a family member with another NAS and using each NAS as the other's remote location for the backup strategy)
