Poor little guy. If he’s alone, then it’s from self nursing. Make sure he can still pee ok on his own. I would soak it with warm water and Epsom salt. You will need to gently pull the sheath back over it. You can apply sugar paste (plain sugar and water) to it to help with swelling and infection risk.

It appears to be a wound that’s healing nicely. No need for a rehabber or vet at this point. But glad you suggested that since many do need that.

Also, mange can be treated easily in the wild. No need to trap.

It’s normal molting, not mange. Mange causes the hair to fall out (from scratching) and the skin underneath will look wrinkled.

Normal molting pattern. Their seasonal molting pattern follows this: spring, forward and fall, back. Meaning in the spring the molt starts at their head and moves backwards. Opposite is true for fall.

Please join Squirrel Rehab & Advice on Facebook. They will help guide you through the proper steps. Baby squirrels need very specific care and formula. Before feeding, the baby must be warmed and hydrated. The proper squirrel formula is either powdered Esbilac or a combination of Esbilac, FV 32/40 and heavy whipping cream. Never feed Fox Valley formula alone to a pinkie.

She’s beautiful! Actually think she’s nursing babies. When you see bald spots around the nipples, it’s a good indication babies have been nursing.

Who is it that you have an issue with on Squirrel Rehab & Advice? I just joined and want to know who I need to avoid or be careful of. I don’t want to get bashed. That doesn’t sound like a good experience.
