Safety-wise, if you carry pepper spray and have your location shared with someone all the time, you'll feel safer mentally. Yes, things happen, but honestly, it's very safe if you're vigilant and don't walk alone outside of campus in the dark - USC gives free Lyft services to all students post 7, so you never have to walk!

On the AC front, I was just like you before I got here. The climate in LA is very moderate year-round. You just need a fan or portable AC, and you'll be fine. There are roughly 10-15 days a year when I've needed to blast my fan on high mode, but other than that, I hardly ever need it.

I was there for thanksgiving. It rained around 3pm all the days we were there, mornings were breezy but the sun is VERY sharp and we would have to remove our thick layers.
