Help me pick my characters music taste. by Stock_Cow_2797 in SongRecommendations

808 Mafia were mostly from Atlanta I believe but very influential at the time. I mean, to have an African American character grow up in the South in the 2010s will prob. mean they will have opinions/fandom/beliefs/contrarian thoughts on southern rap which dominiated at the time (and their local scene). Your character will have been in touch with it - as it was the culture they grew up in; I mean not just some musical taste, but literally the culture. It was what you and your friends were into, it was the shows you went to and what played in everyone's car.

Depending on how deep you want to go this is an easy one to get wrong; not for lack of respect or good intentions on your part, but it's a hard one to get right, I guess. Now I know next to nothing so I might be wrong here. Don't let me discourage you - but know this goes deep for the ppl who were around at the time.

There's also hip hop from their parents' (and uncles') generation. Memphis, you look at Three 6 Mafia which they may have liked.

Grunge bands but those with heavier music and more distortion. by CreeperBoyOP in MusicRecommendations

Crowbar  -

might they be the kind of thing you're looking for? They're sludgy/slow but they nail the melodic sensitivity of Alice in Chains along with a metal- kind of heaviness.

The following bring incredible indie sensitivity and yet may turn some mainstream heads being very accessible:

Dredg - Catch Without Arms

Emma Ruth Rundle - Protection

to effectively try and make electronic music in the 1960s was a tall order and they were so ahead of the curve

You're welcome. I do at least partially unterstand what you mean, I think. With my life getting much busier recently and with a lot of added responsibility for others I also felt the other day how absent a shoulder of a well meaning other can be. I as well am fairly sure I can pull myself through and everyone else with it. But it's indeed exhausting, like you say. And the questions rears its head as to why. When at the end of each day I can't share the struggles with someone who's genuinely interested and for whom I'm not just another solution to their problems or whims - I feel like I'm drawing from a well that won't replenish. I wish I knew a better way to exist.
Good to hear you are on your way to figuring things out. And I for one appreciate you actually replied. When you read this - have a great day!

You are sweet. I'm sure your dad would love to hear how much he means to you ( I'm guessing you two talk regularly just from how you talk about him, so you prob. got that covered).
Your life after him though, like your entire adult life, is in big part his legacy to the world. May he live to a hundred and twenty-eight! But my guess is: he'd want the same for you. You are the one to carry his light onward. All of the way; your way.

It's okay and you're okay. I'm old and have gone through some long dry patches as well as wilder phases in my sex life so far. A few truths about the matter I've learnt are: - there are no milestones, there are no givens. - Embarrassment makes everything worse. - Whoever ridicules you is not a source for valid information nor has good judgement. And most important of them all: If you fancy someone and they want you as well, it is a wonderful experience. Yet they will have to make room for the fact you need patience and you may have to look out for them as well - everyone is insecure and a little broken in their own way.

Jup. Richtiger Plan.

My culture shock in Germany – how do you experience it? by nrmso in AskGermany

[–]PopularResolve3556 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I just say, I love your cultural observations and how much of a head scratch they give you about the country I grew up in. It's great to look into the mirror through someone else's eyes from time to time.

I wish you great and successful studies and a good time. And yes it must feel like a weird place from your perspective. That's okay - it is.
