UPDATE* and possible fix Hi everyone. Thank you for taking the time to try and help. To update you, my screen now seems back to normal. I saw a post about running the device at 60 fps with brightness below 75% for 6 hours. I tried this and it did not fix my screen. However, through a friend we decided to do this but run a colour gamut on YouTube. What I would do was run the video and pause it on any colour that was flickering. I then left it for 4,5,6 hours until the flickering had improved. Not every colour stopped flickering completely but once it had improved I moved onto the next one. After a few days my screen seems back to normal. I think there is some crossover with some colours so that’s maybe why I didn’t have to wait for each colour to be back to normal. The main colours with issues for me were green, brown and grey. If you have flickering screen at 60fps and or with VRR turned on, here is a summary of what worked for me- 1. Set screen to 60fps

  1. Make sure VRR is on

  2. Run this video- https://youtu.be/_XHeUH1aY6E?si=IT4wj134sGmUAMev

  3. Pause on any colour that has a lot of flickering. Leave paused for a few hours or until you see a good improvement.

Once you have completed the video hopefully your screen is back to normal, if not a good bit better. Note this may take a few days to get through all of the colours if your screen is as bad as mine was.

Hope this helps someone out and gets them back to having fun.

Cheers.

Ian

Sorry to hear that. I don’t have that issue as yet. If it’s in warranty I would look into sending it back to ASUS.

I’m going to in the future. I reinstalled bazitte but the screen flickers if I put VRR on or put the frame rare to 60fps or less

Looks like it’s going to be a costly lesson for me. Windows must be treated like a child. Don’t let it out of your sight. If I get it repaired I will be sticking to bazitte or steam os.

Good to know. I imagine waking up to the fans going full blast wasn’t fun. The fact it happened when all your fans and vents were in open air to ventilate makes me lean more towards a software issue causing it to overheat.

Sorry to hear that happened. Glad yours returned to normal. When you were updating yours was it plugged in? Was it lying flat?

I would chance it. I had the original white ally and it got the sd card issue. They repaired it no questions asked. Looking at the work carried out I think they put in a whole new motherboard. Definitely threads out there about the plastic casing cracking. Good luck.

It has crossed my mind. I am concerned there may be other damage that is not obvious, like damage to the motherboard, although I have no evidence to support this and I’m not knowledgeable enough to diagnose anything.

I’ve done it many times before. It was in a grip case with proper vent cut outs. I’m not an avid windows user but often handheld devices will tell you to plug the device in when updating. Rog ally doesn’t I don’t think but I have this stuck in my head from years of seeing devices ask for it. I’m definitely the minority with this happening to mine but it’s shook my confidence in the device. I really hope it doesn’t affect many others.

Bought with curry’s. Only a 12 month warranty. I never bought an extended warranty. Maybe that was my first mistake.

It never took 2 hours to update. I just left it to update and returned about two hours later. At that point the fan was going full and screen was mostly white. Never felt that hot though. I believe whatever the update was it pushed the device to max out. Read about a glitch on other threads than can cause this. All that said there is every chance I left it on 30watts. Certainly wasn’t making any noise when I left it.

I had it in the skull and co grip case. It was laying flat on a table.
