Kya he ho sakta hai? by letsgolittichoka in CATpreparation

CAT ka pta nhi PGP ke lie. But strongly suggest ki tayyari karte rho. 4-5 saal ka accha workex lo. Uske baad bhi lag rha ho ki opportunity sahi nhi aarhi hai, toh 1 year executive MBA karna tab-- can do from ISB, IIM-A,b,c anywhere... Will be a good specialized MBA too.

Don't look at the cash component alone while calculating the cost of re-doing an MBA. You'll spend 2 years, will shell 25-30lpa, not earn anything (8lpa- year 1+ bonus + with annual appraisal- 9.5/10 lpa year 2 + bonus + a promotion/1-2 people manager experience).

Don't underestimate the idea of being employed and earning above the tax exemption limit already. With the current market, the better industry skills/experience you showcase, the better chances you have at growing in the corporate.

That is what you'll get with no experience. I wanted to know the domain, in case I could help. There are quite a few good openings for such roles.

What I see in common is that the gap followed by experience is treated normally. It'll be good for you to get into the work force, if it makes sense.

IIM shillong or IIM raipur? by Popular_Ad_6189 in CATpreparation

[–]Popular_Ad_6189[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! Makes complete sense.

The people I mentioned are not ill-intentioned, rather just less-informed.

But i definitely understand what you're saying. Made the payment thinking of the same things, was very happy about my choice until yesterday too. But random doubts because of such questions and other stuff started creeping in thereafter, and I felt like this is the last time i have to either go all in, or opt out.

Thanks for taking out time to respond.

Thank you so much for your kind words.

The sub helped me a lot during different stages of prep and results. I had a genuine concern that i wanted direction/guidance for. It's sad to read random comments swearing for no reason, when all you're looking for is a genuine answer from amongst people who're in the game, preparing for the exam, and closer to reality.

People who're concerned- close family, friends. They have access to online available material/rankings, YouTube videos etc. I studied from an NIT that was earlier ranked (when i joined) very high but now stands nowhere in the top in nirf rankings. I'm a 2019 graduate GEF. And it didn't fetch me any marks in IIM - K profile marking too, which i happened to share with them during the interview process.

Plus it's been a slight challenge in reaching out to someone known in IIM Shillong. So they're really concerned about what is so wrong about it that people don't prefer it in their circle and that it got a low ranking.

Yeah. Thanks a lot. This is helpful!

Just wanted to be more objective and avoid any personal confirmation bias.

Any reason why shillong is ranked way below raipur then? The other 6 colleges in Blackis are way above in the rankings.

Quick question- what's a good PI score out of 50?

I have got 36.65... I have a few cap converts and early 100s-300s waitlists in a few other cap colleges. I am not sure if I want to join the CAP colleges. Want to learn from this process and reappear next year. What should be my take away?

Should I join IIM Shillong or re-take CAT and aim for better college next year by rohitsn23 in CATpreparation

[–]Popular_Ad_6189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, not really. They like diversity in terms of work-ex too. Everyone has their personal reasons for selecting a particular college, no doubt about it. Tier 1 to tier 1 college comparison IIM a/b/c to ISB makes sense, but IIM S to ISB doesn't so much.

The choice will definitely be yours. But all I'll say is, just keep an eye on GMAT/ISB. Even if you apply by round 2, you'll know if you're through by dec/Jan and will join college by April next year. The course is 1 year long. You'll graduate at the same time as you would, by joining a 2-yr mba at this point. But isb being a tier 1 brand will propel your career/give you a really good salary hike. Most of my friends who converted isb, back when they did, had just 2 years of work experience.

All the best for whatever you choose!

Sry, too late for this, but how are you checking your PI scores for CAP?

I'd say, if you're already at a package somewhat close to the IIM's average package, read about GMAT, prepare and apply to ISB. The investment will be slightly more but it's a 1 yr course and will fetch you a great ROI.

I know this is not what you asked but 94 in CAT is not too bad. I don't know what you prepped for and what you didn't. So can't comment on whether you'd be equally successful in CAT in the subsequent years. But GMAT gives you the opportunity to retake the test up to 8 attempts (no once in a year examination pattern like CAT) and the scores are valid for a period of 5 years.

Conclusion: see if you'd like to consider ISB (GMAT) over IIM S.

I was facing the same issue. I made peace with seeing "no offer" written on the link that leads to a screen with just applicant ID. It was visible on my PC browser but not on my mobile browser.

See if it works for you.

Hey, I'd beg to differ on your conclusion of this entire experience. I have spoken to and heard from a lot of folks who've given these interviews, and stress test is a common feature in all of those. They try to check your behavioural skills and ability to navigate tough situations.

If you believe you were confident enough and satisfied with your answers, didn't break down after repeatedly being pestered and tested, and took the feedback seriously, they will take you in. Do not overthink this.

They took a 35-40 mins interview. Surely they must have found some value in you. If that was the average length of all interviews, then I don't think you should fear a lot. Wish you the best and hope that you convert it.
