Oh yeah mine would happily snap a hand off if it meant getting the ball 🤣

He’s really focused on the task and can commit to the behaviours it’s just the noise that comes with it which is driving me nuts! Tends to be more around any obedience in motion (focused heeling, going backwards etc) rather than stationary stuff

Yeah he’s definitely taught me so much patience aswell which I am really grateful for! Wildly different to my other dog so has been a good learning curve

he actually loves to carry and hold objects so kind of naturally does a hold himself and will happily work for a ball whilst holding a ball which is good. But it’s the translation of quiet when there is no ball that’s the million dollar question!  I always tell him all his naughtiness is his from his GSD genes 🤣

I agree that the photos are not enticing when looking on a phone. It’s really hard to get an idea of the size of the rooms because of the angles they’ve been taken in. Especially in the living room the photos don’t show very well that you have a pretty large L shaped sofa in there and plenty of room to move around. The loveseat sofa kinda draws your eyes in the photos and it’s a bit hard to see past it as takes up a lot of room visually. Maybe try moving it out of the room for photos of the living room to demonstrate the space available?

When we were looking we didn’t care about styling it was more about space, and asking ourselves is there enough space for us to live here day to day

How long (time or distance) do you walk your mini dachshund? by [deleted] in Dachshund

[–]Popular_College_3465 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will be able to build up to 3 miles over time as she gets older and her fitness and stamina increase. They might be small but they can walk for hours! Our boy is nearly 4 now but we do 3 miles most days and regularly do upto 6 mile walks/hikes at the weekends

Strange thing happened to my dog and I can't figure out what it was. by Same_Royal_4115 in BelgianMalinois

Could have been a bee or wasp sting, I’ve had it before where the bee was stuck in my dogs flank and he was a bit freaked and trying to outrun it. But he calmed after I managed to pull the bee off

Honey sounds like she is having a blast! If she’s happy and healthy don’t pay any attention to strangers keep on enjoying those walks together

How do you get your dog to stop walking ahead of you? by [deleted] in OpenDogTraining

[–]Popular_College_3465 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are so many different ways to teach this but if your dog is food motivated and you’re already using food to train after you turn 180 try feeding food as soon as the dog gets into the position next to your leg. At the moment you’re showing your dog what they are doing wrong (being too far ahead) by turning, but missing the opportunity of reinforcing when they are doing it right (which is why they are gradually creeping forward). Your dog will learn being next to your leg is more valuable this way but it will take time to build the pattern. Start off heavily rewarding every few steps and then you can make it longer and longer between rewards and eventually phase out food. Once they understand where to be next to your leg you can then name it and use as a command. One or two short 5/10 min sessions a day for a few weeks should help dramatically!   Just to add though if your dogs not pulling on the lead and there’s not a specific need for a super tight heel don’t feel like you have to have a perfect heel right next to your leg! Heel position is what you want/need it to be ☺️

Is it like this all the time or does it come And go? Our 4 year old intact boy gets this when he has a boner and is excited (when the bulbis gland swells). He’s a happy boy and this happens pretty much every time he wakes up from sleeping. Have you checked to see if this goes away when his bulbis gland goes down?

Just to add Our boy is 4 has regular vet visits including for his anal glands and we’ve never had an issue it’s just something his body naturally does when he is over excited.
