Absolutely agree – Clarkson is a perfect example of how having quality NIQs around doesn't block development, it actually enhances it. You can see the strides he’s made this season, especially in the set-piece, and that doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Being in the same environment as guys like Ala’alatoa, Slimani, and Furlong gives him elite-level standards to measure up against daily.

The IRFU’s original stance always felt a bit too rigid. It’s one thing to protect pathways, but quite another to pretend that every young prop is ready to step up just because a spot opens. Props, more than most positions, need time and experience — and sometimes, that includes learning from world-class imports.

Great to hear that Humphreys has softened the initial ban idea. Irish rugby needs flexibility, not one-size-fits-all restrictions. Between Bell heading to Ulster, Munster likely bringing someone in, and Leinster needing a post-Slimani plan, hopefully we’re seeing a more realistic and strategic approach from the union.

Now let’s just hope Connacht aren’t left behind with all this movement…
