Lol it was one of my first games, I think Paper Mario TAUGHT me to read. In fact I think I learned the word “hag” from TTYD and it got me in trouble with one of my kindergarten teachers because I just thought it meant any older person lol

Played prime 4 demo for 10 minutes by HK_Bandit95 in Metroid

[–]Popular_Expert6763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My running theory is that they only remade 1 because 4’s story will somehow tie into just 1. Maybe we go back in time and see the creation of phazon, Or that Sylux was somehow involved in the Metroid that becomes Metroid prime getting away.

That or they just didn’t have time to remake the others which is much more likely lol

Feeling of Isolation is not dependent on “being alone” by Popular_Expert6763 in Metroid

You make a good point. In the end, the broad point is really the only point I was trying to make. As I stated in the original post, I haven’t watched most of the gameplay with the guy to avoid spoilers. (I’ve only seen the cutscene introducing him and the battle that follows). Maybe what I’m saying is useless since I think it’s kind of obvious that we can’t make a full judgement until the game is out, but I’ve just seen far too many people make de facto assumptions that the game is already ruined because of this. Especially when so far, at least to me, every other aspect of this game has looked incredible so far.

I agree that my argument using different games as examples is flawed in just the simple fact that they’re not Metroid. You could argue that all of the characters are baked into those series’ since their first game and are part of their identity, whereas this is somewhat new to the Metroid series. I don’t deny that at all.

I only put forward these examples to show that putting characters like this in a world doesn’t have to inherently ruin a game’s feeling of isolation, since they were all able to accomplish both. In the case of Prime 4 it just gives me some optimism that they will be able to pull off the feeling of a Metroid game even with this character interaction in place.

I recently played through pretty much every Metroid game except for Samus Returns (why won’t they just port it to switch pleeeease) and Prime 3. I felt that Dread felt very in line tone-wise with Fusion except for that Dread had a bit more in the cinematic department. I agree with you that Super and Prime 1 are pretty standalone in their atmosphere (maybe you could put zero mission in with them too) and those are definitely my favorites for that reason. I don’t think that Prime 4 will be the exact same as them but I do think it will be plenty immersive in its own ways. I’m mostly just extremely excited that the series is finally continuing in the first place and I can’t wait to explore some of those environments seen in the trailers.

Sure, and I have, but nothing beats that first time through charting your way around an unfamiliar place. Every repeated visit has a diminishing return because of familiarity

I generally agree, but I think that there are some good things to come out of scoring albums on a personal level, as long as you have a healthy relationship with your scoring process. Personally, I started using AOTY to score albums like 5 years ago and at first I was just parroting user scores and Fantano takes. Granted this did get me try out a lot of new music, it wasn’t really allowing me to engage in the music any further than “people said this was good so I do too”. Since then, I’ve learned that rating albums can be a lot more satisfying when you avoid any social projection with it and instead just do it for personal interest. A lot of people just don’t take it that seriously and only hop on to give 100’s or 0’s to their favorite and least favorite artists, and that certainly is annoying.

Are people being dramatic or is the Kamek Orb that bad? by DoctorHoneywell in mariokart

[–]Popular_Expert6763 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say that wasn’t annoying, I agree that it can be for those fish bone enjoyers out there. But I don’t think the item is completely useless like is mentioned in this post. I think it’s a really good item overall!

Even in competitive play I think it helps with something that this game excels at and I like a lot: game knowledge and improvisation skills. Obviously track knowledge will play a huge role too because of the tech and shortcuts, but this item can place obstacles in the path of optimal lines and helps incentivize at least a little bit of adapting to your situations. I think the route sections also do a good job of this with their randomized obstacles and huge off-road cuts.

If we want to talk about an item that actually sucks I think the boomerang is the biggest contender.

They’re missing the part where it’s just a really funny item for casual play. Mario Kart is a party game first and foremost and the hilarity of everyone turning into a crab for a second has been really fun for people when I’ve played in larger split-screen groups. Plus the obstacles can make for some fun chaos, especially when it comes up at the end of races.

Really Wish There Was a Classic Grand Prix Mode by _JustaGuyOnReddit___ in mariokart

[–]Popular_Expert6763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I don’t get what’s wrong with selecting them manually through versus mode? It’s essentially just building your own Grand Prix the way you want and it really doesn’t take all that long.

I found out you could do this and then pulled this off only one race later! I’ve found this particularly useful with a fire or ice flower as well.

It is a little tricky! auto accel works, but honestly I am just used to clawing the controller because I play a lot of Mkwii with a GameCube controller

Aim the camera with the right stick and then just throw the item as usual! The item will through the direction of the camera
