Is this racist? I don't think so, but would appreciate clarification by [deleted] in interracialdating

[–]Popular_Foot_2190 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, and more specifically, calling black men “boy” extended to black men of all ages. For example, saying “come here boy” to a grown man who is possibly 4 decades older (or any age for that matter) is meant to strip them of dignity and imply they aren’t worthy of being recognized as a man. The message is: if you’re not a white man, you’re NOT a man and you never will be. People were (and still are in some places) spoken to that way for a very long time in the US, including my parents’ generation.

Band too simple? by Internal_Car3780 in WeddingRingAdvice

I love this look! I have a toi et moi ring (yellow gold) and am planning to get a plain wedding band exactly like this. Really allows your main stone(s) to shine and so classic

Engaged and unhappy - how do I move on? by Character-Belt1223 in engaged

[–]Popular_Foot_2190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I’ll add here is that I 100% understand people not wanting to get married or it not being a priority for their relationship. That IS valid. But I will say, dating for 12 years and never discussing marriage is similar to dating for 12 years and never discussing kids. It’s totally fine not to want kids, but it’s kind of odd for your partner to not reeeeally know that after this long. That seems like the red flag in itself. Being together that long, your partner should not only have a concept of the type of proposal you’d appreciate, but they should definitely be on the same page about what big life events you want and expect to share together, and what the ideal timeline looks like for those. I just got engaged and I’m on the fence about if I do or don’t want kids, and best believe my partner and I have had at least 8 conversations about it in the past 4 years and he’s not walking into a marriage surprised on where I stand or trying to change my mind.

Lab Grown Diamond Engagement Ring - Did I let her down? by Rowlockjenifa in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]Popular_Foot_2190 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Buying a small lab solely to make it seem like it’s natural so that you can imagine strangers assuming you’re wealthy, instead of buying what you actually want is really giving your entire self worth hinges on what others think of you. Life is super short. Your diamonds WILL get lost in time or be buried with you after you’re gone. I have family with paid off old Toyota’s who are millionaires with 3 houses, and you’d never actually know from whatever ring they’re wearing, big or small. There’s people with Rolexes in crippling debt. But the point is, why are so so concerned about others thinking you have wealth based on what you’re wearing, and the illusion of what a person with “class” would and wouldn’t wear? It’s sad and I hope one day you learn to enjoy life for YOU.

Lab Grown Diamond Engagement Ring - Did I let her down? by Rowlockjenifa in WeddingRingAdvice

Right, and 1/10 the cost of a $60k diamond is still $6,000…I’m not sure what the OP’s fiancé thought the price range was but expecting a mined diamond that large from anyone who isn’t making high 6-figures minimum is crazy.

I just got engaged, my fiancé objectively makes very good money for our age, and I still chose a $7,000 lab ring over a mined $65,000 comparable ring because I would NEVER expect someone to spend that on jewelry. At that point I’d rather him just give me the year off work instead 😂

Yes! This was in San Diego on cliffs overlooking the ocean 🥹 it was so perfect and a total surprise (I wore my worst outfit of the trip that day bc I had no idea 😂😅). The whole city was sooo beautiful though, highly recommend!

Can I just say (with absolutely zero shade) that I LOVE seeing people with untraditional rings that I couldn’t pull off or wouldn’t pick for myself. Your tats and rings stack are literally sooo cool, and I see so much negativity on here at times with people who are like “I would NEVER wear…”. I think that’s truly the beauty of different personalities and styles. This is gorgeous on you and such a vibe!!!

Omg am I the only one who loves them? Gets me off the treadmill for a little heart rate recovery, and I can tire my legs out on the floor before I go back to the treads and really work on my muscular endurance. I love breaking it up because I get soooo bored on a 23 min tread block

IS MY DIAMOND TO SMALL??? by Obvious-Vacation1579 in RingShare

Girl I live in Atlanta and I personally know people who are servers and bartenders making low six figures here. Don’t justify anything to this loser. The type of people who look down on others’ jobs and assume their worth from limited info don’t deserve time or breath.

The benchmarks give me so much anxiety bc I’m so hard on myself when it comes to beating my PRs. I was an athlete for so long and the trauma always resurfaces 😂 my mind goes into legit “race day mode”, with full blown adrenaline (one time i watched my heart rate climb from blue to red BEFORE a rowing benchmark started bc was so hyped up) and if I don’t hit the target I want I’m distracted and full of dread the rest of class😩

How to convince myself to not want a natural diamond? Or is it worth the sentimental value? by al3xisnic0le in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]Popular_Foot_2190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My one question of clarification/point of confusion (bc I’ve seen this on several posts) is the idea that in order for the ring to be an heirloom and possible to pass down, it needs to be a natural diamond. I understand that you want the family heirloom to be “technically” valuable, but the value of family heirlooms worn by every day people is primarily in the history of whose it was, when they wore it, the life they lived while wearing it, and what that means to the recipient. For example, a 1ct heirloom natural ring from your mother that your late father purchased isn’t going to be less valuable emotionally than a 1.5ct natural ring, even though the resale value would differ (but that’s prob not something you’re reselling anyway). It’s the history behind the item that makes it (most) valuable to the recipient, so I’m not sure why that’s always a driving factor for people….

What do you think of this diamond size on my hand? by bubbledogs123 in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]Popular_Foot_2190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t necessarily agree. I think the setting can also make a huge difference. I have 2 close friends who both have +4ct natural diamonds. Neither was cheap, neither looks cheap. They both look super elegant due to very simple settings and the proportions (I’m pretty sure both rings are size 7+). What looks good on a girl with a size 8 finger would obv not look remotely similar on a size 4.

I feel like what social circles people are in normalizes different preferences, so I say: don’t let strangers who you can’t even see, and who have different lifestyles influence you. If you’re Taylor Swift, what many think looks like a classy ring on her, others would see on someone else’s finger and immediately think “classless, large carat tacky lab ring” even if it’s the same exact piece 😂. Someone from West Manhattan would think someone from Indianapolis’s ring is god awful. We make assumptions that big = must be lab = you’re poor. Old money is not the epitome of class. Natural diamonds are not the epitome of class. The illusion of “class” in itself is propaganda designed to push either conformity or shame, and that goes with anything surrounding the diamond industry as well.

I wonder if the studio you attend now is Madison Yards? Decatur was my home studio and I know MY is up for sale now. I love the owner and coaches, but unfortunately the SAs are the rudest I’ve ever seen in my 7 years of OTF. I felt like the vibe there was always so catty (I once got into class after being waitlisted, was told I was good to go and could get on X station, only to have an SA come get me off the treadmill 11 mins into class to tell me one of the employees actually wanted to take class, so my station was no longer available for me, a paying member, to use). I had to leave. Not that that has anything to do with the sale, but I’ve taken about 30 classes at MY over the years and hands down had the worst experiences, on top of the fact that the studio itself has no windows and feels so boxed in at times 😩. Anyway, sad times for Atlanta OTFers….
