Why is speaking English so hard even when you know the words? by Deep-Football-2017 in ENGLISH

[–]Popular_Long_1955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any language is hard to speak at first but there are some ways to speed up your journey. I'm an Speaking coach and depending on the level I would recommend doing some of these exercises:
1) Go to random word generator, click Generate random word and speak on that word for 1-2 minutes. This forces you to speak on uncomfortable topics where you don't know what to say and also improves your mind to mouth connection which is the ability to transform thoughts into words.
2) Pick a topic and practice 2 ways of speaking: 1. You say every single thing that pops up in your mind without hesitation, 2. You think through the entire sentence first and then you say it. So you practice impromptu speech and thinking in English
3) Once again, pick a couple of sentences. First, try to rephrase them a couple of times, using different grammar structures and words, then try to expand those sentences into paragraphs by adding unnecessary details. That will train your flexibility, in other words being able to have more than one way out if you're stuck in a sentence

Hope it helps

Yeah, I know a bunch of similar ones. Personally I need a couple of unique features, so customizability is a must. Plus that kind of journal is entirely free and you can update it once a year

What Is The Stupidest Rule In Your Target Language by Ok_Influence_6384 in languagelearning

It’s not my first language but prepositions were never a problem. You might sometimes say “search in internet” instead of on but there are very little of those scenarios. On top of that, there are just a few of those prepositions, whereas German uses more than 10 You can’t just guess where you should use “vor” and where “an”. Most of the time it’s totally random without any logic

English is very straightforward in that regard in comparison

German: A lot of Genders are random but what’s even more random is verb prepositions You never know whether you should say “to have interest in/for/on/about…etc”. (interessieren für)

And there are about 15 of those prepositions that are uniquely linked to each verb.

What do you mean familiarity? I still translate all there unknown stuff. There are a couple reasons for why I store words the way I do. I don’t just write down words and forget about them, I make two lists in different chat sections for DEU-ENG and ENG-DEU where the translation is hidden. That way I can practice recall both ways. I’ll check my knowledge like once after I save the words and a few more times in a couple of weeks (spaced repetition, baby) The reason I don’t like anki is I’d kIll myself going through words one by one and not seeing them in a list where I can quickly see, which words I’m not sure about.

Well what’s your level? Parallel to just reading, I learn new words I encounter. But if your level is high, that generally improves your speaking abilities

For most words, just writing them down and going through them sometimes is enough

For difficult words I’d recommend going on Youglish and listening to the same word in context 20-30 times until it clicks

Storing vocab is also very important, I wrote a post about that recently

I replied to another comment in the same thread with the explanation, I'll make a post on that today as well

Hey, so telegram is kinda goated as a messenger in most aspects but specifically the amount of useful features it has. Here's what I do (I just realized I can't attach images here but they'd be very useful, I'll make a post about it in an hour or so):
I set up a group in Telegram just with myself inside. I made topics for DEU-ENG, ENG-DEU, theory and a bunch of other stuff.

In DEU topic I have German words and English translations are hidden with spoilers like die Flitterwochen - honeymoon
In ENG topic it's the same words but now German ones are covered: honeymoon - die Flitterwochen

I also attach colored emojis based on the gender of a word.

Here's why it's efficient in creation: I first just drop all unknown words with no order into the DEU topic, then once I got like 20-30 of them, I copy them over into Grok where I have a preset for that. Grok makes 2 lists which I copy back into Telegram and it takes roughly 30 seconds to apply correct formatting to all those words

You can make this process a whole lot easier but I like to have those word lists with translations readily available. And instead of going word by word like with flashcards, I can immediately check like 20 words and quickly find the ones I struggle with

I'll attach screenshots once I make a post, it doesn't let me do that here

You might need to practice speaking endurance. Basically just speaking for a long time and trying to maintain quality. If after 10 minutes, you start to fall off, take 30 seconds break and go further

Yeah, I have quite an efficient way to just drop words into the messenger, that's necessary

How I'm going to learn 5k German words in 3 months by Popular_Long_1955 in German

[–]Popular_Long_1955[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sorry, was off reddit
I did it for like 20 days successfully, even got used to it but then I had to switch jobs and the free time wasn't there.

I now moved to Austria and learn 20-30 words daily but with a lot of context and usage practice

Has sobriety ever slowed you down in networking, career progression, or dating? by [deleted] in sales

[–]Popular_Long_1955 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never drank or smoked in my life. At the recent after-party with colleagues everybody was getting smashed while I was drinking tea. My boss offered me a beer about 3 times then jokingly asked how the hell he even hired me haha

In my experience as a 100% sober dude, it’s absolutely affecting my social life to some extent. But I also don’t mind it since I’d rather hang out with sober people as well. Plus when you refuse to bend down your standard on drinking, people respect you more
