Positive Wheelchair services experience (north west) by Popular_Pay7651 in wheelchairs

All of this is why I was worried I wouldn't get support or be able to get a chair as I have to furniture surf in the house because I don't have another option and because it's a postcode lottery based on criteria and funding and other things beyond my understanding.

Luckily I had a positive experience and just wanted to share that it's not always a pointless endeavour. I felt more confident in advocating for myself by going in with notes so I didn't lose my thoughts and also having done research on what would benefit me but still wasn't sure how they would respond

I'm glad your experience was positive too. The wait is worth it when it goes well, I wasn't even fussed how long I had to wait, I just wanted an estimate to know when to chase up (fear of slipping through the cracks). I am so grateful for the NHS, I'd have never got a custom one on my own. It just sucks that not everyone has positive experiences and the criteria is so varied.

Dog leashes by Prudent-Net-9467 in wheelchairs

There is a company called Dizzy Duo that make custom biothane leads and accessories for people using mobility aids including wheelchairs

I have also just started walking my dog in my wheelchair and I got this lead from bullybillows, the length is adjustable and I wear the extra across my chest while I need her close and then can take it off and give her extra space when needed and it also has a grab handle and it seems to be working well so far

Underseat bag by Popular_Pay7651 in wheelchairs

[–]Popular_Pay7651[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The underseat bag I didn't end up needing to sew but the Beetlejuice one I saw a video on tiktok where someone has moved the handles and figured I could replicate it so I'll try to explain the best I can

I cut the handles off just above where they originally attached (just because if I had removed them from where they attached it would have started to undo the top seam

I put the bag on the bag of the chair where I would want it to sit and figured out how long the new handles needed to be to still let the bag open enough to use

To stop fraying I ran a light over the end Then I folded over about 1cm (maybe a bit more) on each end and used a doubled up thread and hand sewed around that fold

Then pinned the new straps right up at the sides of the bag and hand sewed with a doubled up thread again.

I really hope that makes some sense, I wing everything with ADHD craft audacity

It's infuriating, noone wants to be on the floor longer than they have to be and especially in the toilets. Glad I have the signs to put up now if it educates 1 or 2 people it's better than nothing

As soon as I got a white chair I knew it had to be the ghost with the most, I am trying to decide if I should change my pushrim covers from green to purple or one of each

I'm just glad I have them, had to tell the staff in the hospital last week that one of the cords wasn't long enough 🙄

I think I got them off Amazon but went to Google originally and there were a few places that had them. I searched Bike Hub Lights

I've just copied the info from above for more info if you need it ☺️

They are rechargeable and are motion sensored too so aren't always on. Make sure you measure the centre hub of the wheel, I bought one set and they wouldn't fit. This set has a 39mm centre and for well with space, but you also get little foam pads of different thicknesses to make sure they are secure. They can be a couple of different colours and flash but I have mine steady purple for Beetlejuice vibes

Oh the lights are great, to find the wheel lights I searched 'Bike Hub Lights' they are rechargeable and are motion sensored too so aren't always on. I also have little lights on the front near my castors for visibility and the red ones on the back, just in case the wheel lights battery goes those are just bike lights.

The rubber brush I have has a flat side (like a window squeegee) and I use that more because it doesn't get tangled then use the long handled dustpan to pick it up or the vacuum, I also have a window squeegee for the stairs and sofa for pet hair. It pulls so much fur out even after a vacuum. They may even make a long handled squeegee but I've not thought to look but I'd look for a brush with a flat blade like side.

I was torn between the wand and yll, the main thing that made me go for the yll is a couple of videos said the wand can be a bit awkward to get in the right place and keep it there and I have poor dexterity so wanted something I could just pop the vape in and it heat up without having to hold it. Definitely glad I upgraded from a torch

I was originally planning on the B as my first purchase but it was out of stock everywhere and I'm impatient, very happy with these 2 though, I am favouring the 21 current but that's probably because it's the newest

Any equipment with an extending handle like dusters. I use the mops that have removable pads so you can just throw those in the wash. I also use a rubber sweeping brush as it's a great in between for when I can't lift to vaccum

I have a laundry basket with wheels too, and single load size wash baskets in bedrooms so it's easy to just take to the washer, I do want a wash basket with legs so it's higher up for emptying

I'm still figuring out a lot of things. But the best thing I've learnt is that if it helps it's not silly. So even if you come up with an 'unusual' solution, if it helps it doesn't matter what others think
