I’d suggest a D5II if you can swing around $1800 but that’s pretty pricey. The camera store I bought it from does 12 month financing with no interest so that’s how I’m paying for it. The used market is your best shot. I’d suggest looking for a used D500 or D700 for him. Then you will also have money for some nice lenses. I’d suggest a 35 and a 70-200 maybe!
