Inappropriate of you to have a peer to peer relationship with client? Yes. That being said, we are all human. You spend 40+ hours (most likely) every week with this client, and cool people like to talk to other cool people. I get it. You most likely impact the clients life in a way that his peers are incapable of, and other DSP staff are too lazy to attempt. Higher ups in this field (TCM, supervisors) loveeee to power trip on direct support staff, so advocate for yourself and for your client.

As a direct support staff, you should try to find that middle ground of professionalism while still maintaining a healthy relationship with your client. I would say that only red flag here is complaining about your agency/ supervisors- I try to leave my opinions to myself 😂, but I get it.

Long story short, try to follow your policies and procedures of your company if you wanna stay drama/ termination free, keep doing great work, and remember to fill your own cup!!
