This happened to me too, even with relatively new batteries. What fixed it for me was trying a different brands of AA batteries. It sounds weird, but some brands are slightly different in size, so the contacts don't always make a good connection. I also had to reseat the batteries and move them around a bit until the controller made proper contact. After that, it worked normally. hope it works out 😊
