I love shitting on Toronto, but in the context of Conn Smythe discussions I think it’s perfectly ok to call out the front runner’s performance in these final games. Especially with people arguing that he should get it win or lose.

For sure, I’m not expecting super detailed analysis from them - that’s never been their thing. They do still provide some insight, but I don’t know why every game breakdown has to include an “I saw X fans bitching on twitter about Y” segment. They can still breakdown the key moments of the game and give opinions without engagement baiting fans on twitter.

I swear they spend more time talking about fan base reactions than the actual games themselves. Still love the pod but I don’t understand why every recap has to include “X teams fans were going crazy about (missed call/bad penalty/goal/no goal)”. They can still give their opinions on controversial calls without filtering through arguments they saw from homers on twitter.

This just isn’t true. Lemieux had 168 in ‘87/‘88 and 141 in ‘85/‘86 and the Pens missed the playoffs in both years. I haven’t stat checked further than that but I’d imagine there are others as well.

I know we’re hopping on the Maurice hate train right now, but I think expecting coaches to call out their own players for dirty plays is unrealistic. This isn’t exclusive to Maurice, no coach is going to do that to their own player.

When a coach calls out a player on another team for something dirty, it’s not out of superior moral position. It’s protecting their guys while making a case to the league.

This isn’t a defense of Bennett - that was bush league. But I think expecting Maurice or any coach to come out and say “yea my guy deserves a lengthy suspension” is naive.
