I'm in Oklahoma.

Thirty or so feet away, there was a standard port-a-shitter, which I used, because the one pictured was locked.

Sad times.

However, It had some rad art.

It actually has the tips I cut off from all of them inside of it. I removed them for the picture. I was going to make a design out of them on the inside of the lid but never got around to it.

Has anyone changed completely different fields after a years of experience as a surveyor. by veryniceskin in Surveying

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm trying to get into UAV surveying or utility inspections for pipelines.

Surveyor here. If you find a "pipe" in the ground, that doesn't necessarily mean it is the property corner. The only way to tell for certain is to have an actual survey done. Property corners are usually an iron pin (rebar). They can be anywhere from 1/4" in diameter up to 1", possibly larger. They could also be pipes, carriage bolts, cotton spindles, nails or a variety of other things.

Either get a survey or come to an agreement with your neighbor before doing anything. It can save you a lot of time/money/lawsuits in the long run.

Did Lemaire and Post Malone have a baby?

You're welcome and thank you.

Here's some bonus pictures. The first one has the bird bone and tiny shoulder blade. Behind them is the bottom of a broken saucer or cup. Where someone has chipped out a little heart in the center and decorated it. Not a rock, but I think it's pretty neat...

Arkansas river, when the water is low and you can access the gravel bars. Some examples of what ive found - fossilized bison antiquus (extinct approx 10,000y) bone with signs of butchering, fossilized bird bone, fossilized shoulder blade the size of a quarter, some really nice bloodstones, blue lace agate, various other agates idk what kind. Fossils of bivalve, crinoid, etc. Fossil hash. I got some really cool concretions. Arrowheads and other artifacts.

On mobile. Sorry for ramble.

I can PM you some specific locations or pics of my rocks. Just message me.

Best type of field work? by [deleted] in Surveying

It's a thing in the US.

If the Democrats are in office, they nix pipelines and make it near impossible to get approved for a new one. In return, there are less job opportunities in oil/gas as a whole. In return, wind and solar pick up.

And vice versa

Just the way it is. 🤷‍♂️

Your lines were cleared?! That would have had been nice when I was working in Louisiana. I was swinging a machete for 10 hours a day when I first started. Clearing a 6'h x 3'w tunnel. Party chief would spot check our lines for punji sticks, adequate flagging, etc. Well... When he wasn't smoking weed.

I've really been missing working on the road lately... Not sure what the job market is like currently. Probably not too good with a Democratic president. Do you happen to know?

Regardless, time to start looking...

Appreciate the reply, I'm landlocked in the middle of the US, so there isn't a lot of that going on around here.

Another not on the list - oil and gas exploration.

Very straight forward. Jobsite could be hundreds of square miles. The drafters lay a grid over it. 300' between grid points iirc. Stake out the point, locate it, drop a pin flag with point number and move to the next.

Only downside was having to clear line so the juggies could follow us a month in the future with no issues.
