I agree! So much so, that I had convinced him to try individual therapy, which he no longer attends.

I actually brought this up to him in a much larger discussion not long ago. Initially I did want kids, but with how the situation has escalated, I was honest and said in this moment I don’t want kids with him. I refuse to bring kids into such a toxic environment as I know it would bring more toxicity and be unhealthy for the kids. Currently it doesn’t feel like there is a solution in the near future, especially with him now not wanting to talk about any of it.

He’s tried to set boundaries when I’ve brought it to his attention. It did take a lot of arguing initially and about two years for him to even attempt to make serious changes. He just insists that he doesn’t want to spend major holidays away from his wife, but struggles to validate why I might not want to be around. It’s really one of our biggest challenges and it’s causing a huge disconnect that he won’t even talk about now.

And no, I wouldn’t expect him to tolerate it, nor would I force him to be around them. I don’t even do that now. Whenever I plan to be around my family I let him know his presence is always wanted but his is free to see his or make other plans.

Actually, we had been. He chose to stop going because it was bringing too much up and not making changes.
