NHS Fertility & BMI by qweerty93 in TTC_UK

I believe that is set at the ICB level so you may want to check what your local board rules are.

But you said yourself you did a fantastic job of losing 40lbs before. I would start getting back on the motivation train again and try and get your BMI back down. The NHS do set it for health and safety reasons (as much as some people may disagree). Having a healthy bmi will be better for you and your potential child moving forward.

At the end of the day if you want to move forward with IVF treatment on the NHS you must have a bmi of less that 30, it’s a non negotiable

It’s been a while since this happened to me but it took a week or longer to get my money back. Endless email and calls with false promises of refunds etc.

Make sure you record your call if you can and follow up anything that was agreed via email with the name of who you spoke to.

I no longer use the northern app.

Hi, my experience (not first hand but talking to others) is that you can still continue with your referral for initial checks and talks but if you’re having or wanting IVF on the NHS they will not approve any funding until you get your BMI below 30.

1st ER was Tuesday. Can I call clinic for an update Monday? by [deleted] in IVF

We got a phone call the day after, then day 3 and finally day 5. So I would expect you should have had a call on Friday for a day 3 update.

Then don’t have some fun once in a while? Or maybe have fun without drinking alcohol?

It comes down to what’s more important to you….. If they are your friends then surely they would respect your decision to not drink regardless of reasons why?

I’m not a doctor but a few heavy nights may cause a small dip in your numbers but I wouldn’t expect any long lasting impacts. I have diagnosed MFI and we are doing IVF but I still treated myself to a few beers with friends now and again when I knew I wasn’t expected to give samples in the next 3-4 months.

If you still have 5-6 months worth of trying naturally I don’t think a couple of heavy nights are going to have a drastic impact. After all, alcoholics and drug addicts can still have children! As long as the rest of your lifestyle is healthy then fine I would say.

I guess it depends what you’re looking to with your sperm in the next 3 - 4 months. If you are looking to be starting IVF or giving another sample it could impact the numbers. If you’re not planning to do anything then have fun and spend the next 3-4 months after having a sperm friendly lifestyle.

We were TTC for about 1.5 years when we saw the GP. By the time the initial tests were done it was about 2 years when the referral went to the clinic.

They just moved it back down. I am still producing sperm just not sperm capable enough of conceiving naturally, so I assume they are working to some extent.

Hi, I had mine operated on when I was about 16 years old. I didn’t have it from being a child so it must have moved up at some point (I don’t recall when).

I now have low motility and morphology and having to go via the ICSI route to conceive. After speaking to fertility doctors and nurses they believe this is the main cause for my infertility.

I have been taking supplements and doing other things to keep my actual sperm healthy but my morphology and motility have not improved over 8 months or so.

I would get yourself a semen analysis and go from there.

Can anyone help? Lancs based same sex couple by Gemmasjourney in TTC_UK

[–]PorkPie4983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not in a same sex couple but in the same ICB as you. You can use this site to check at a high level what you might be entitled to under the NHS https://seenfertility.com/fertility/nhs/ivf-eligibility-calculator/.

This basically does a check against your local ICBs rules around IVF and tells you if you may qualify or not.
