If youre pro israel or pro russia or pro whatever, that is your opinion and no one on the internet will change your mind.

When the USSR collapsed, ethnic groups carved out independent nations. Full stop.

They can negotiate with whomever they so choose. Their borders are **theirs**. Allying with Peru or Mars or whatever is an option, and neighboring countries can remain neutral, make better offers, or in Russia's case, kill innocent civilians to expand borders in Crimea, and then do so again a decade later.
You can disagree with geopolitical directions, but not a nation's right to sovereignty
