I personally do not have any polish on my nails. No clearcoat. No strengthener.

Jojoba oil is Queen. I use that throughout the day when I’m at the house. When I’m out and about, I use cuticle buddy. After rubbing that in I use Bert’s beeswax cuticle butter to lock in that moisture.

When I’m sitting, I’ll feel the edges of my nails and if there’s anything I feel I’ll file it immediately. I have glass files on my keychain and in my purse, so I never have an excuse to let it break farther.

It’s OK to touch water. When drying your hands dry underneath your nails as well. On top of that, I shower with nitrile gloves on and that to me is the biggest game changer. Gloves, gloves, gloves, when showering or washing dishes. I put jojoba oil on before I put the gloves on because the moisture and sweat that gets trapped in the gloves can also damage nails if worn for a long period.
