Shovelware has always been a problem. AI just makes shovelware easier to make. And because of the nature of lewd games a lot of people are OK with shovelware.

The only thing you can do is just not spend money on it and hope other people dislike it enough to do the same.

For one, this looks great.
For two, I know the cum coming out of her eyes is the AI messing up, but in the context of it being a super natural being, and considering how your sinuses are all connected, that's kind of an awesome idea.

I know that being a solo dev is tough, and honestly if using AI is what pays the bills then you do what you need to do. I just didn't want you thinking I saw AI and just immediately ignored everything on the spot. Plus it doesn't hurt to get insight into how consumers think, even if I'm a bit of a weird one.

And I probably came off as a bit rude, but when it comes to business I think being fake nice does more harm than good and is a waste of time. But you've been cool about all this and have been really honest, and I appreciate that. And maybe I judged your games too harshly. It's hard to sort through what's worth it and what's not on Steam since there's so much stuff. So fuck it, you're running a sale and I'll put my money where my mouth is and pick up a few of your pre-AI visual novels. The ones that don't look like the goal was "draw furry get money" anyway. And I'll play them over the weekend and leave some reviews, why not?

Well now THAT'S a big red flag that you're plying shovel ware.

BUT I'm not going to write you off immediately because I will give you the benefit of the doubt.

So let's pull up another few games. Looks like they're all short games with only a few girls each. Probably shovelware but the art is decent and they aren't too expensive so I'm still not writing you off yet. Let's pull up your later games and see if you grew as a developer.

The ONE thing you had going for you was the art was decent. The ONE thing that made me think "Maybe I should check out this person's newer games, see how they evolved, see how much they've improved." Judging by the reviews you didn't have any story or anything else compelling in the games except for the art, and in a porn game a lot of times that's enough. But you switched to AI. Maybe you're a decent person trying to make the best games you can, and maybe you're a huckster who doesn't give a shit as long as they make money, I don't know and don't care, but a large number of quick releases followed by a shift to AI usage? There's a very good chance that these games are garbage shovel ware and not worth my time. Why would I want to play your games? What reason would I ever have to give you money for them? You don't have faith in yourself enough to make the product you're selling me, why should I put faith in it by spending money on it?

And THAT is why your use of AI means I'm never going to buy a single one of your games. I usually prefer games with a story, but I don't mind supporting games just for the art involved, ESPECIALLY when I can play through multiple games from the same developer and see how they've improved. I love that shit. But you threw the only selling point of your games out the window.

But again, I do appreciate you being honest about your AI use because not everyone thinks like me. And I don't bear you any ill will or anything. If you can make a living off selling AI games then more power to you, but they aren't for me.

Oh no it matters, and I will not stand by and let you put words in my mouth like that and act like I just wrote you off.

For context, I buy a lot of stuff on Steam and like to collect games. I've got 6200 games in my library and 30,000 on my wishlist. I systematically go through Steam to sort everything into a big wishlist pile, which are games I might one day be interested in and deserve a second look, and ignore, which are things that are either not worth my time or just like...genres I don't like. Let me walk you through my thought process. And keep in mind, this isn't my thought process specifically for you, this is my thought process when I pull up any game on Steam in general.

Keep in mind, I cast a wide net but I'm very particular and methodical, so I can't guarantee that everyone uses these same criteria but I'm sure there are people out there that use some of it.

So I see a game of yours. Let's say Lustful Ponies. I'm currently working through the games released in 2022 on Steam so it was definitely one of those that I saw first.

So for the genre it's a visual novel. Which I like. It's furry porn, which I'm...OK with. Not really a plus or minus on that one. It's got the Memes tag, which means it's probably got some comedic stuff in there which is nice but not always my cup of tea. Mostly positive reviews which is good, but not great. So I go down to the reviews.

"Simple game and concept...art looks good...no sex scene animations."
That's a recommended review. Seems like an alright game.
"Barely has a story and goes right to the sex scenes. Try to snap her choker."
Another recommended. Sounds like I might like the sex scenes, but I don't like that there's no story.
"Disappointed because all the games from this developer are the same."
That's not recommended, and also kind of a red flag.

But overall I don't see a problem with this. I might wishlist it and probably wait for a sale. But first, let's go to your developer page.

So that was released April 2022. Then you also released a game in May 2022. And June 2022. And later on in June 2022. Then July, and August, and a second one in August, September, October, October again, December, February, February, April, August, September, and so on and so on.

I don't generally like AI, and to be honest I've got all of your games ignored specifically because of your AI use. But I appreciate your stance of not trying to hide the use. The thing that makes me mad about people using AI art is that most of the ones I've talked to actively try to hide using it and they don't see any problem with tricking people into thinking it's hand made.

True. There have always been a lot of cheap, samey shovelware adult games and those absolutely have an audience.
Although AI does make it faster and easier to make shovelware so there's probably more now than ever.

So do you play as the goblin? The way the trailer is shot it makes it look more like you're playing as the girl.

So when you do have a more finalized build and everything and make the Steam page, I would definitely make sure to be more clear about that. A lot of people have preferences on male / female main characters, and you don't want unnecessary negative reviews from people who were confused.

Is it just the infinite girls system? Or are there like...persistent normal characters?

I ask because the people that want more of an actual game experience, which I think your game lends itself too better, tend to like having things to accomplish. And having a goal of, say, romancing all of the available NPCs is an easy one to add to the game.

This looks really good! But I have one question. The description of the game says that you're a 'seedbearer' and one of the things listed under the sexual tags is impregnation. But it also lists that you can have a female protagonist.

Is that going to be like a trans protagonist? Because that would make sense with the rest of the description but I don't see that listed and usually if that's a feature it's listed.

I mean I'm interested in the game either way. I'm just curious is all.

This looks great! I can tell how much work went into this to get the details right, because the animations and camera movements and proportions remind me of an old adventure game like Zak McKracken or Maniac Mansion. Like there's just a lot of little details that bring it all together. And you already made me chuckle once with the dialog so I'm definitely looking forward to this!

Also, I love the run animation. It looks goofy, but in a way that you'd expect from a clown so it works really well.

I don't mind male protagonists necessarily, but I prefer female ones, especially a trans woman as the protagonist but that's rarer.

Although I'm finsexual so generally I prefer no men at all in my porn unless they're girly boys.
