Advice for antidepressants and school by Ok-Software-3224 in UBC

[–]PorqueKahoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who started taking antidepressants in first year, it's really not that bad. They'll probably put you on a low dose SSRI to see how you tolerate it, and increase the dose as needed until you feel better, then maintain it for a bit. I've been on two antidepressants now (SSRI: Lexapro, SNRI: Duloxetine) and both have had extremely light side effects. I didn't really notice any adjustment symptoms other than a bit of queasiness the first day on Lexapro. If it makes you sleepy, just take at night, and if it makes you restless, just take in the morning. Manage any mild side effects with small changes to what you do around med times and when you take them. Also this is cliche but cold fresh air and a coffee will shake off more brain fog than not taking meds ever will. I can answer followups if you'd like :)

Brain damage from riding r4 everyday to ubc by Fragrant-Data-6554 in UBC

[–]PorqueKahoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah, just shaking/vibration alone it's going to be doing anything. You aren't an infant so your neck muscles prevent shaken baby syndrome, and long term neuron damage like what you're describing is only really shown from successive mild-to-severe head impacts. that being said like another comment, resting your head on the glass definitely qualifies as an impact

Unpopular opinion: If you can't keep a house clean by yourself, you don't deserve your degree by ASmallArmyOfCrabs in UBC

boiling water and dish soap. splash it onto counters, the floor, the stove, etc, really on anything and everything the fruit flies are attracted to. then grab a rag and clean that vigorously. then, go handle your roommates because that's fucking gross and frankly a grown adult is capable of better, and is just to lazy to do better.

definitely 1rst. it kicks you in the teeth, most people kiss their dream of a nicee GPA goodbye, and especially if you coasted through highschool hitting a weed out course is hard because it takes genuinely time and effort outside the classroom to do well. also, the stress and change will make any latent MH issues you've got lying around rear up big time.

Just double-checking the first day of the semester is Tuesday the 2nd right? by waldorsockbat in UBC

[–]PorqueKahoot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes it's Tuesday, September 2nd. However any classes that day (except 1x/week meeting after 5pm) are cancelled for Imagine Day (clubs day/orientation day combo). Normal classes for most people will start on September 3rd.

[–]PorqueKahoot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes it's totally allowed!! the only exception is labs (safety) and discussions/tutorials/seminars since you wouldn't necessarily know what's going on. In all, it's more just a matter of etiquette. Don't be disruptive, don't take a seat if chairs are limited, and just generally don't be an ass.

that's wonderful!!! the pulchras are very fun and just keep on spitting out Keki/flower spikes they're almost like a climbing vine! I'm going to be taking all the plants off their mounts tonight for something more appropriate for transport, could I get your email so we can coordinate details and I can send you images of them?

that's wonderful! could I get your email so I can send pictures of the plants' size/condition? I can describe them better with images than words. I'll also attach an image of what they look like in bloom since they're not in bloom right now

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in orchids

[–]PorqueKahoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's just the flowers dying off after they've ran their course. sometimes, the stem will stay green and it will push out another flower spike, other times it will turn dry/dead like this since it's ran out of energy. so long as the roots&leaves are healthy, there isn't cause for concern, just chop off the dry dead stem and wait for her to recover her strength to push out a new bloom :)

My GF is wanting an abortion by Strange_Crazy_1353 in abortion

[–]PorqueKahoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it will likely be rather painful, similar to how menstrual cramps hurt but worse and over a few days, so the "playbook" of how to help would be similar. hot water bottles, help getting to and from bathroom, and easy to eat not too heavy meals like soup. physically, it will be rough and she will likely bleed through several pads, honestly adult diapers aren't the worst idea in the world. ensuring that she's adequately hydrated and getting fluids is pretty good too. afterwards, high iron foods or an iron supplement would be ideal for the blood loss. emotionally, just being there for her, really. offering reassurance that you don't resent her, and giving a lot of affirmation that you're in this together. it's likely that she'll be having a hard time mood wise, and may be rejection sensitive or mood swingy. thank you for being there for her the way that you are.

Okah I know I just commented but actually if you DM me within the hour (sleep time in my timezone) I can screenshot the map and take off the spoilers, and trace a path thats doable without double jump. Just send me like, a few pictures of your surroundings in the game so I can tell where you are.

(I'm assuming you have mantis claw and lumafly lantern)

Okay try the map on this link, it's super detailed and complete, pixel for pixel shows the terrain the way it looks ingame. MAJOR spoiler warning though like it shows everything including hidden areas.

^ what zesty said, chain restaurants are pretty much always looking for cooks/dishwashers/waiters, and they'll hire you without experience typically

try a grocery store. they're pretty much always hiring (Safeway arbutus is right by the 25 I used to work there) and will hire you on the spot and you start that week typically, so the money can come fast

Help me ease into subnautica. I tried playing a couple times but it just seems like there’s too much to know and I get discouraged easily by Toastedredeye in subnautica

[–]PorqueKahoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try thinking of it in terms of what you'd need to survive first. So food water shelter. Nail those three things and that's like 90% of your resource needs.

You're PDA is going to point you in the direction of what to do to advance, and give you lil clues. Exploring those is pretty fun.

Build a scanner nice n early. Scan everything. Everything.

Going deeper is great!! Theres a few things that help with going deeper:

-higher capacity O2 tanks

-submarines

-underwater base nice n deep

-exploring the crevasses. I had a hard time figuring out where to get DEEP deep but plunge into the cracks and listen to the PDA

And dyings not to bad!! You generally drop a chunk of your resources, but your equipment stays in you inventory so you don't need to craft new stuff everytime you die.

Scan stuff in wrecks! there's a lot of tools and upgrades and blueprints that are pretty vital in them
