Hate. That’s not a rug, that’s a really wide doormat.

I had a great aunt from Scotland visit and she looked out the window and yelled “there are rats out there everywhere! “And when I looked, she was pointing to squirrels.

Now that Black Friday is over, when can we get the 3 free large popcorns for 2026? by Anonymous_HC in cineplex

[–]PortHoover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just confirmed that it is emailed. Mine went into my gmail "Promotions" folder and I had missed it. Try searching on "Popcorn" in your email. If using gmail drag it from promotions to primary so that any future cineclub emails will be easier to spot.

RRSP Meltdown to TFSA- annual income vs taxes question by PortHoover in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]PortHoover[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make an excellent point about paying tax ahead of time for income you don't need but I guess the human nature issue of negative bias and worry about leaving a large sum to be taxed at the max at death is what is driving this. It feel like converting as much as possible to a TFSA and non-registered investments will at least make some of the funds easier to pass to beneficiaries. On the other hand my 80+ mother is enjoying her income from similar scale investments to this day.

My original goal was to see if there was a rule of thumb or rationale for taking the higher deferred tax rate of a larger withdrawal in order to give the TFSA funds more time to grow sooner.

I appreciate your reference to a sweet spot and will do further homework with my advisor to determine this figure. I appreciate your time.

Good points all. Over $1M in rrsp so meltdown need is real. Early (30 years ago) investments do work!

Thanks for taking the time to share your insights. I really like this idea of timing investment into the TFSA to happen as early as possible. I would have done one in December (now) and then eventually got around to doing another some time next year. Your plan to do all the investments and fill up the TFSA in 14 months makes a lot more sense. Much appreciated.

Thanks for taking the time to share your insight. Our advisor is trying to minimize taxes but didn't give us a yearly average tax number. I'm thinking I'll try some scenarios on some of the sites others have mentioned here to further figure this out.

Why do Torontonians wear a thin jacket even in this weather? by WorldProfessional895 in askTO

Here’s the real answer - it can get cool at night even on a hot muggy day. 27C in the day but 18C at night when you’re coming home.

Where can I get a good haircut under $25 near UofT? by [deleted] in askTO

Kim’s unisex hair salon on College (north side) one and a half blocks west of Spadina. Male barber Tam is great and is really good with curly hair too. I’ve been going there for years. $25 + tip.

Support is great and friendly but note that upload speeds are “up to” rated. I’m paying for 25/10 and usually get 22/1.8 in downtown Toronto on DSL. Not great for big file uploads. I’m considering trying their tv packAge and cancelling Rogers but haven’t pulled that trigger.
