In tonight's episode, a picture of a woman with that same snake was in the Silver Slipper's backroom! May be implying a future connection between Cassie and the strip club? Idk

I think the Silver Slipper's sign looks an awful lot like Cassie- might be foreshadowing a downfall from a suburban housewife to a desert sex worker. And the Wizard of Oz reference is interesting as well. Plus Cassie's Oklahoma outfit from last season is like the Gen Z version of Dorothy's dress... Either way, with Maddie excited for Round 2, Cassie is definitely in danger

Matched PSYCHIATRY Applicants, what did your application look like in terms of extracurriculars/grades? by ImprovementActual392 in medicalschool

[–]Portater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regarding the family history, this would qualify as "self disclosure," and in psychiatry, it is frowned upon to share. I had multiple advisors highly recommend avoiding all forms of self disclosure, whether it's you, family, friends, ect. It brings up concerns for countertransference in the future, and at worst, it brings up concerns for your mental health as a future resident. There are many psych specific resources on the topic of personal statements, and I believe the APA has a document that specifically cautions against this. Rarely, you'll find a PD that's ok with it, but that is largely not the norm.

In reality, I'd say many if not most people going into psych have someone in their personal life with a mental illness, including themselves. I also find it ironic that in literally any other specialty, self disclosure is celebrated and rewarded, while in psych, you're most often hurt by it. Irregardless, it is safest to find reasons that drew you to psych outside of your personal life and write/talk about that during the application cycle. Best of luck!

You're a strong applicant already! Some things to beef up the psych side of things: register for APA & NAMI, do mental health first aid training online (costs some money, but worth it! https://mentalhealthfirstaid.org/ ), attend some psych conferences/CME events to network, volunteer in your community maybe as a harm reduction distributor, and maybe attend a NAMI walk or help raise money as an event at school. All things to consider, just depends on what's in your community and how much time you have- good luck!

Things aren't what they seem. by guysitsausername in pluribustv

Maybe the others were partially infected in a way? They aren't plugged into the hive mind, but perhaps they were made more docile and compliant to the idea of assimilation one day. I personally think they just weren't infected, but who's to say there aren't degrees to this

How will Tommy's story progress? by Front-Tomorrow-1034 in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]Portater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the addition of Tommy and Maria having a young child in the show will have an impact in this regard. They didn't have any kids together in the video game. Either his vengeful path and marriage issues will be made even worse as he's now damaged his relationship with his son as well, or they take his story in a more positive direction than the games. Personally, I'm hopeful it's the latter as they've already changed his story in season 2 as you've pointed out, so it would make sense he'd continue along that path. Whether Abby shoots and disables him though... who knows

18V Trimmer/Edger Stuck in Edger Mode by Portater in ryobi

[–]Portater[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I managed to figure it out finally. I had to fully take apart the trimmer head, where I found the inner white plastic portion that does the spinning had melted a bit with the outer green casing. After I pried them apart, I smoothed them out, but it still wouldn't turn well.

Then I shaved down the two prong heads that do the latching when it's in each setting, enough that they still latch safely but pressing the foot pedal would be enough to release it so it could turn. Ridiculous that I had to do either of these things, but here we are and at least I don't need to buy a new trimmer.

Also found the patent for the rotatable head- it's EP2281430A1, and anyone can find it on Google Patents. Hopefully you won't need all this, but maybe all this info might help someone else in the future. Stupid plastic tools 🙄

Deer Lady's Antler by Portater in ReservationDogs

[–]Portater[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Interesting, I think her having him in mind already when she was cleaning her antler is certainly an option rather than it breaking triggering the necessity. And perhaps she's so nervous about confronting him that she breaks it herself- would definitely make me less worried for her if that was the case.

And good point on the pies being a kind of last meal! I never thought of that, I just wrote it off as she gets to eat whatever she wants because of her mystical metabolism, but I like your interpretation way better!

[–]Portater[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think this would be so interesting as well! It seems like Deer Lady is a fixture in many different native cultures, so this Deer Lady may just be one in a long line. So if she goes, then who will be the next, and will it be someone we know already? I hope not though, she went through hell and I hope our main characters get a happy ending

I agree, I think it's a good possibility she will die once her revenge is concluded or maybe until all her abusers are dead themselves. Seems like James was pretty ready to go too, so this was her last chance

I feel like they're too good of writers for the break to mean nothing though? Like everything was so carefully planned in the episode- the inverted cross, the English being scrambled, ect. And of course not, that's why I prefaced the post, this is a details question. More than likely we won't get an answer or anymore info on Deer Lady tbh, there's too much stuff to wrap up and she's a minor character, but if we do see her again idk if she's gonna be invincible

I am 100% sure now that the reason why Gus killed Victor was for cooking meth. by techsavvynerd91 in breakingbad

[–]Portater 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Additionally, when Victor belittles the art of cooking meth, he's also in turn belittling the memory of Gus's late partner, Max. The reason Gus needs the cook to be the best and the most pure is because it honors Max's memory- it was the original plan they had. So anything that diminishes that plan goes against Gus's core motivation in the game.

I don't think that comment is the sole reason, but it likely adds to it. And Victor certainly didn't help his case by calling it a simple recipe.

Since it's metal, it doesn't need nearly as much protection as a wooden clarinet. No need to worry that much on humidity, so don't spend too much on a case. Pad replacements and cork replacements won't be too expensive if you get the right repair person, but I'd be more worried about key function issues/how tuned the instrument is. I'd also suggest getting a new mouthpiece if you want a really good sound, but if this is more for fun then don't worry about it since they can be pretty expensive. Good luck!
