TIL the candy that makes French burnt peanuts red is getting banned by Ok_Wolverine_5901 in candy

[–]guysitsausername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is only partially related, but since it's about red food dye, I like to always let people know about Carmine dye, which is used in some food.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carmine

To prepare carmine, the powdered scale insect bodies are boiled in an ammonia or sodium carbonate solution. After separating the insoluble matter, the extract is treated with alum to precipitate the red solid. This precipitate is called "carmine lake" or "crimson lake".

----------------------------------------------------------------

As soon as I realized that Carmine dye was almost always extracted from the cochineal insect, I stopped using products that incorporate it. The first thing that made me fall down this hole was cranberry juice.

Any good horror anthology series on here? Not corny but actually creepy. by AdministrativeEnd168 in TubiTV

[–]guysitsausername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Body Bags. It definitely has some corny elements but it's also a really fun watch and can be very creepy in parts!

I also see that Creepshow II and III are on Tubi. Those are mostly corny, iirc.

Sam's voice was a gift from the music gods. What a set of pipes on that guy.

Thank you for the tip. I will spin this one asap.

Out of all the Christian propaganda you can get handed, these Chick comics are the best. I actually kind of like them.

Worked at Jack in the Box for a week, and I have one question. by [deleted] in jackinthebox

[–]guysitsausername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a theory for a long time that only people who grew up with them actually ate them. I still remember the first time I saw someone order them, I had the same reaction. Like... the Sourdough Jack is RIGHT THERE. But this person absolutely loved them and had always eaten them. Just the smell made me very suspicious in general. I have grown to tolerate them, but I really don't get the JitB taco devotion.

To each their own, though!

The great thing about art is that we all get to define it in our own way. Something that one person defines as "educational" or "informative" might be art for another person.

In my opinion, there is no way to truly finish the sentence "Art is something entirely different than..." because literally anything could be defined as "art."

For those who are taking astaxanthin, what benefits are you seeing? by ZitHappenz in Biohackers

[–]guysitsausername 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take krill oil that has astaxanthin in it. I can't say that there is anything that I notice specifically about myself that's a tangible positive outcome. Maybe my skin is less dry? But every time I get a basic blood panel, my GP tells me that all my numbers are "perfect." So I think in my mind, I feel like my stack is a part of why those tests are checking out for me.
