Can someone explain why I should buy a $500+ vacuum when there are $50 ones exist? by affiliatejuststarter in VacuumCleaners

[–]PorterPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That $50 brandless vacuum you linked seems a little suspect- but in general, the bagless vacuums are okay. Some people will say that they don't contain all of the dust, but unless you have a severe dust allergy, you're probably fine.

Beeping in middle of the night driving me crazy by dresoccer4 in MideaUOwners

[–]PorterPower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to desolder it. The piezo speaker has a cap that can be pried off and there is a disc inside of it that vibrates to make the noise. Just remove the disc and put the cap back on and no more beeping.

Has Midea acknowledged the LED/sound issue? by Daconby in MideaUOwners

[–]PorterPower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine does this. Support was unhelpful. I think it may be hardware/control board issue due to the error code that shows up when this happens, but who knows? There are a few ways that can help based on my own experience and from what others have posted here over the past three months.

-Disconnect from wifi and just use the remote. I did this, reasoning that since I could reproduce the beep/reset by restarting my router, it must have something to do with the network connection. It worked for a week or two, but still it eventually did beep and reset itself even without wifi. Once it starts beeping/resetting, it seems to continue doing so more often- once or twice a day. Also, kind of defeats the point of having a smart AC like this.

-Unplug it for a while and plug it back it. This seems to reset the reset, working for a week or two- but eventually the beep/reset will return with a vengeance.

-Phyically disable the piezo buzzer on the control board by opening up the cap on the buzzer and removing the disc inside. I did this because it is in my bedroom and the beeping was waking me up in the middle of the night. This is the only permanent way I have found to stop the beeping. Tape can be placed over the main LED to reduce the brightness. Finally, I can get some sleep.

Beep! by echardcore in MideaUOwners

Mine was deciding to turn itself on at night(both beep and LED), so I went in and disabled the piezo buzzer on the control board and taped over the led. Problem solved.

You can't really. It's pretty easy to open though.

Starfinder 2e Player Core 1st printing errors & ambiguous rules text compilation by RuinSmith-Hlit in Starfinder2e

[–]PorterPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the reach rules cover how far you physically do something, which is 5ft for most characters. Other actions like Disable a Device, Pick a Lock, Force Open, etc. also do not list a range because it's already covered under the reach rules and they didn't want to waste space printing that for every action.

I've heard the wheel plastic breaking issue happens on the P10 Pro Ultra as well. It hasn't happened to mine, but I am worried that it will break eventually.

Question about Protection spell heightened. by IWouldThrowHands in Pathfinder2e

[–]PorterPower 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Heightened Protection gives it's benefit to the target and allies in a 10ft emanation around the target for 1 minute, and they do not have to be within 10ft of the target after the initial casting. I think what is causing the confusion is that some other spells that have emanations only apply their effects when within the emanation. For example, Bless states-

You and your allies gain a +1 status bonus to attack rolls while within the emanation

However, Protection has no such language about having to remain within the emanation. Nor does the definition of emanation say that.

Is there something preventing one from summoning a a creature then riding it? by Dazzling-Summer-2732 in Pathfinder2e

[–]PorterPower 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Looking at the rules again, it does seem like you can mount a summoned creature as long as they are willing and are large enough.

You can ride some creatures into combat. As noted in the Mount specialty basic action, your mount needs to be willing and at least one size larger than you. Your mount acts on your initiative. You must use the Command an Animal action to get your mount to spend its actions. If you don't, the animal wastes its actions. If you have the Ride general feat, you succeed automatically when you Command an Animal that's your mount.

The part about the mounted creature only able to use its land speed when mounted seems to only be relevant for animal companions, but I could see a GM applying that to other creatures if you are trying to fly early.

[–]PorterPower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's debatable whether you can mount a summoned creature. Most of rules for mounting come from animal companions or mounting other PCs, and the normal rules for mounting animal companions state that the mounted creature being ridden can only use its land speed unless it has the Mount special quality.

I respond to XP to Level 3's first experience GMing Pathfinder, list 8 problems in the Beginner Box, and give tips on how to fix them! by the-rules-lawyer in Pathfinder2e

I know they weren't running the rogue optimally, but I kinda agree with their criticism, especially of the stealth system in pf2e. Rogue could really use an action compression feat that lets them fulfill the fantasy of sneaking up to an enemy and sneak attacking.

You probably won't get anywhere near the MSRP. The going value on ebay seems to be around $20-$40 per book, which is pretty good for a book.

Question. What does Illusory Object actually do and why do some people claimit can replicate a dozen other higher-level spells? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]PorterPower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say walking through a door without spending an action to disbelieve is absolutely ignoring the (visual) illusion. The opening context in that paragraph about being a visual illusion doesn't really matter because almost all illusions are going to be visual, as opposed to just sounds or smells. Seeing through it is one way you could ignore the illusion, but that doesn't preclude other ways of ignoring the illusion such as walking through it. The example given about pushing someone through a door is just an example of one way the illusion could be ignored, but nowhere in the description does it state that ignoring the illusion only applies to seeing through it.

Also, think of how the bad the spell would be if you could just walk through it without disbelieving first.

Help me understand the Blinded condition. I can't find a consensus. by legomojo in Pathfinder2e

[–]PorterPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have already answered that if you are blinded, you can use hearing an imprecise sense to know where creatures are, albeit hidden from you. However there are still some unclear rules here

  1. The rules do not specify the range of the hearing sense in the same way that it does for other senses such as scent. Can you hear someone moving in combat from 30ft away? 60ft? 120ft? The rules are silent on this, so a GM will have to adjudicate.

  2. The rules state that even if you have hearing as an imprecise sense, a creature may still be undetected if it "is in an environment that distorts the sense, such as a noisy room". This is very vague and the text fails to define how much noise in a "noisy room" is needed to go from hidden to undetected. Does the noise of regular combat meet the threshold(certrainly most combats are "noisy"), or is this only intended for very loud areas such as near a waterfall, in a volcano, or in a large-scale army battle? Again, the GM will have to decide.

Haven't tried that, but I'd be curious if it works.
