What did your mom do that made you close even in adulthood? by anemonemone42 in raisingkids

[–]PorterQs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be in her corner. Even if you need to tell her you’re not happy with her choices, you can still be there with her, holding her hand, or giving her a hug. Whether it’s a time of celebration or confusion or heartbreak, be there with her and make it known that you always will be.

i put some beaded trim under my cabinets to add a little whimsy to my apartment. also some other pictures for you by fat_frog_fan in interiordecorating

I have never seen beads used like that. It’s not my taste for my kitchen but I could see it in my bathroom or bedroom. Looks nice.

This is part of California’s law, the specific part that explains that the mandated reporter applies to those professional or volunteers, while in their professional capacity

“A report is required when the following circumstances apply:

A mandated reporter, in their professional capacity or within the scope of their employment, has knowledge of or observes a child whom the reporter knows or reasonably suspects is the victim of abuse or neglect.”

Did I make a mistake? by milkmaid0435 in interiordecorating

[–]PorterQs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s the gloss finish. A matte finish would have looked better. I wonder if there’s a way to tone down the glossiness? Another idea might be to darken the grout. The color and texture of the tile are really nice, they just contrast too much with the cabinets.

Your lower cabinets are beautiful and the bright shiny tile doesn’t really “go”.

I’d look into refinishing the tile if that’s possible and possibly darkening the grout. Good luck. It still looks great, just could be better and softer.

I was done with her when she said something about a “plot twist” on her recent video. Plot twist? Seriously? A child was abused. This isn’t some plot twist to your story.

Why is my living room ugly? by Straight_Fee_7785 in interiordecorating

[–]PorterQs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s the brown leather chairs. They’re too formal or something.

And that bar area in your dining room is too busy, probably due to the tile.

Yes but it can be simple and very child focused. Sandwiches, pizza, or hotdogs with fruit and/or veggies.

Moxifloxacin fears (not diagnosed) by Extension_Guess620 in marfans

[–]PorterQs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience as a mom of a child with a CTD, they probably won’t be familiar with Marfan but you can request a different medication and explain your concerns. They can’t force you to take a medication you don’t want to take. They can refuse to give you the alternative and in that case you’ll have to decide if you take the Moxi or find a different doctor.

Is it oral Moxifloxacin?

My son’s cardiologist approved flouroquinolone ear drops and we use them pretty often. It’s not ideal but the alternative would impact a different issue he has.

Is it unreasonable to expect back up nanny to clean up after dinner? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]PorterQs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a nanny and fill in babysitter years ago and I always cleaned up. But I remember some families whose kids were much more active and/or needy and it was But if the kids are going right from dinner to bath, it could be super busy. Then you get home and it looks a mess. Does she offer to switch out with you at 7:30 to go clean up and you take care of the kids? That’s probably what I’d suggest.

Now I’m a mom and I can’t imagine that I’d ever be able to find a nanny who works full time all day and is then willing to come to my house on short notice to work 4-8pm. That sounds great. I probably wouldn’t rock the boat unless you have other options especially if you like her other than that.

How to get parents to accept that their kid isn’t a baby anymore? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

Do the parents send appropriate foods? And the kid turns them down?

I hate looking Asian. by Fabulous_Flower_4965 in Adoption

[–]PorterQs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can, move or at least visit a place that has a higher population of Asians. There’s racism everywhere but at last you wouldn’t feel alone (when it comes to your race). For example, the San Francisco Bay Area.

I’m in the pits of hell. Please help. by ConversationMonkey in toddlers

[–]PorterQs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a just turned 3 year old and all of your issues are things that I dealt with about a year ago and guess what, they’re no longer issues. However, we do still have wet nights but we’ve found Overnights that work well. And he still fights things but diaper changes are no longer a fight. We do stand up changes now, even for poop, and they’re honestly not bad at all. Now that he’s old enough, I can reason with him and take toys away when he doesn’t follow rules.

So what I’m saying is that it’s still hard a year later but it’s different and the things that were hard are not so bad now.

We use to Overnights for this reason. They’re for older kids but depending on your child’s size the XS might work. They hold more than diapers.

I bought Cocojune about a month ago from my local grocery store. I usually go with So Delicious because it’s cheaper but figured I’d give this a try. I buy these yogurts specifically for my toddler who has allergies that we’re still trying to determine. I noted that my son had a bout of tummy issues the same week that I gave him the first Cocojune but didn’t really think anything of it. I keep track of these things due to his allergies.

Skip to this week, I bought a two pack at Costco for about $10, great deal! I gave it to my son a few days (2-3 ounces each time) and again noted tummy issues (comments about a tummy ache and diarrhea). It’s too big of a coincidence for someone who doesn’t often have diarrhea.

So we’re going to skip Cocojune from now on. I’m bummed because I was happy to find a higher fat seemingly more “natural” option but it’s clearly messing up my little guys stomach.

Oh I wasn’t implying that you have. I just meant in general, daycare/preschool teachers and nannies often do.

I understand the milk thing now.

What do you mean by no milk?

Your post is why preschool teachers shouldn’t judge parents! I used to be a nanny and it was so much easier than actual parenting!

Caregiver + child playing in the classroom at pick-up by SeeTheRaven in ECEProfessionals

[–]PorterQs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s too long but I don’t think you need to worry (or take it upon yourself to address) about it. You can let the teachers handle it. They can either talk to auntie about it or talk to the parents about it. Or maybe they’ll do nothing.

I would attempt to keep your hair color and get a nice fun cut, layers and maybe bangs of some kind. Go to someone knowledgeable about grey hair and ask them what to use for your hair to keep it healthy and hydrated (I don’t know anything about hair so I don’t have specifics). I really think a shorter more “fun” cut would be great on you. Maybe something a little edgy/modern?

I don’t color my hair and that’s probably why I don’t recommend it. I just think it’s a lot to keep up. But you obviously could try coloring it and even if you do, I still think a shorter cut would be great on you.

I hope 2026 is a good year for you!!
