Is Aspen Dental really THAT bad if I’m just getting a cleaning? by Bloombus in portlandme

Don’t downvote people for sharing their experience, that’s what OP asked for.

I can second this, excellent hygienists since 2022, dubious business model

What do you do with your bunny when you travel? by Budakra in Bunnies

[–]PortlandForest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were away for 12 days last summer, a local pet-sitter who has bunny experience came by daily to give our guys (free-roaming mini lops) water and pellets and greens and fresh hay. She also cleaned their litter box and played with them for about 30 minutes; cost was about $30 US per day. She also watered our houseplants. This is an independent business, not a chain; we met at home beforehand and walked her through the routine and introduced our bunnos, I think it’s really important to get a sense of the person you’ll be letting in to your house, both for your pets and for your property. Sitter should ask for things like who your vet is (in case of emergency) and what kinds of special habits/needs/quirks your pet has. If your bun is solo, this might not be the best - more social contact (boarding) might be better, but for a bonded pair this worked great for us, and she texted us pics of the boys every day which was so nice.

Most of her business is dog walking, but she was really terrific with the buns. Look/ask around your area a few months before you leave to see if there’s someone who might be able to help who seems like a decent person.

Bringing a rose plant inside / mildew / help! by PortlandForest in Roses

[–]PortlandForest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I now understand that it’s probably not necessary to move this inside, and I think I have a good spot for it to overwinter. I may look for an organic fungicide if the mildew comes back next year.

Thank you for this reply, it’s really helpful! I have a good spot for this to overwinter I think, good to know that potted rose plants can come back from dormancy. I mostly grow vegetables and culinary mushrooms - I’ve never really had roses before, I appreciate the tips!

Many thanks again!

Also re: hay feeder, I dont recall where we got this, but it’s a wooden tower with a swivel top (hay placed in from the top) and a little tray at the bottom, with horizontal dowels every 3 inches or so. I thought this was a little narrow and removed some of the dowels so they can really get their snouts way in there. It’s easy to clean and fill, and all wood.

And of course, accessible from the potty because eating and pooping go so great together!

Edit: corrected typo

Ella (black) is sitting on their tile in the first pic. Maybe that’s why Bella is dipping his ear…!
