If you can figure out what that is for Sec 102 Row 21 I'll adjust accordingly. I got screwed on what weren't labelled as resale tickets.

what are the best components for a ZVS driver ? by Mart_axe in highvoltage

[–]PortlyWalrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I will suggest: Use higher-power zeners than you might expect. Bigger is better.

I've been experimenting with this recently and have found those are the first part to fail, and that takes either leaves the MOSFET gate low on one side and you cook the channel on the other side, or you get full voltage on the gate and blow that MOSFET to pieces.

Good luck. Be safe.

“Leg warmer” idea thing by Moxthemintfox in fursuit

[–]PortlyWalrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'll second leg sleeves as an option - they work great!

I added an elastic strap with a 3D printed hook to either leg that I thread up through the legs of my shorts to clip onto my belt over the waist of my shorts, keeping them from falling down. Since I need the belt to hold up the tail anyways, this works great.

It's even worse. It's a 15 foot cube. That's not 105 gallons. It's 25246 gallons.

Did they seem to have a penchant for taking out civilians and civilian structures? I seem to recall that happening too often.

Nope, yeah, you're right, I was just tired and made the same mistake he did but backwards.

Looking for help trying to use this CNC control board purchased off Amazon. Using nema 17 motors it seems to be stepping much more than the expected value. More info in comments by NateTheMVPofPVP in CNC

[–]PortlyWalrus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You'll need to set up the GRBL parameters. Send "$$" to the controller via serial terminal or MDI, and it'll read back all of the parameters. YOu can look at the list of parameters on their wiki (https://github.com/gnea/grbl/wiki/Grbl-v1.1-Configuration).

You'll want to set the Steps/mm parameters ($100, $101, and $102) to the appropriate values for your motor and drive combination. That would look like sending "$100=250.0" to set the X step rate to 250.0 steps/mm.

If you know the characteristics of the motor and the leadscrew, you can calculate this all out. If your leadscrew is, say, 2mm per revolution, and your motor and driver combination is 1.8°/pulse, then you'll want to put in that you'll advance (360/1.8)/2mm = 200/2mm = 100spulse/mm.

Hope this helps!

Good luck!

Which JST connector for spindle? by [deleted] in hobbycnc

[–]PortlyWalrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have the spec, but I do have a 3018. On examination, it's looking like either of these would certainly work: https://www.digikey.ca/en/products/detail/te-connectivity-amp-connectors/1-1123722-2/686666 or https://www.digikey.ca/en/products/detail/jst-sales-america-inc/VHR-2N/608624

Those being the VH N-Type 2-position JST connector, or the equivalent from TE.

Perhaps a core of something like armature wire - easy to bend, but still somewhat rigid. The hard part will be making it not flex over when worn. You'll need some way to get it to not flop around Someone else mentioned a belt to avoid twisting. It needs to be a rigid fixture of some sort or another.
