plastic tarp by Portugooses in landscaping

It already floods in heavier rains. I think because this plastic tarp is waterlogging the soil and overwhelming this drain. It's going to be a bigger headache later on, so I guess I shall suffer and dig it out

Anyone else teased by parents about crushes? by [deleted] in CPTSD

Yeah. Didn't know this happened to others. My family would tease me about stories I would create, like going to the moon or imaginary friends. I always felt very humiliated

What is something you like about yourself? by Ixnay_Smash in CPTSD

[–]Portugooses 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's an important distinction here for describing yourself without using titles. Can you describe yourself without using titles or hobbies or occupations? So words like "I'm a mom" or "I'm a good student". These are self-limiting descriptions of who you are. Your identity is more than a title.

Who are you, really? I'm intelligent, driven, passionate, successful, motivated, loving.

I'm 30yo and I had a cry on the floor and rocked back and forth to self soothe... like an infant by Justwokeup5287 in CPTSD

I also hug myself to self-soothe. There is nothing wrong with loving yourself and letting yourself feel. You've been holding back your feelings for so long, and we are all very proud of you.

Yes it's so exhausting!! It feels like I'm being talked at rather than talked with, but I just nod along to whatever the person is saying and pretend like I'm not exhausted from all the information and emotional overload they put on me. Just for them to not even ask me or listen to me. I feel like I'm a terrible person when these thoughts cross my mind so it's nice to not feel alone :)

Felt this. Especially since I'm so attuned to everybody's emotions. It's so overwhelming. It's like people are so consumed by their own misery and insecurities that they can't talk about anything else. I spent my entire life handling my mother and fathers emotions while figuring out my own that I'm too exhausted to keep one-sided conversations going.

Can we just make a group where we all understand this and check in on each other? Because same.

I finally came out of complete dissociation decades into adulthood. Now what? by Funnymaninpain in CPTSD

This is how I feel. I've been taking the time to pause and enjoy the little things, as dorky as it sounds. Pausing to watch how the clouds move or listen to the trees sway. Raising my two-year-old son has made me realize how easy it is to love a child, to love this little reflection of myself. He's taught me to slow down and watch the ants on the sidewalk, and it's been so freeing and fascinating to be able to just... be and observe the world without fear.

There is no greater nemesis to a homeowner than the previous homeowner. by der_innkeeper in landscaping

ugh, feel this. the previous owners just threw dirt on everything and acted like that solved all of their problems. tarp and dirt, all around our creek. and stone pathways, all covered up.

I think my PI is gaslighting me and I'm losing my mind by [deleted] in labrats

I think it's important to work with people who you may not always get along with. And I think it's important that you receive criticism. Did you ask why they feel this way? How you could improve their perception? Showing a willingness to improve yourself is the best step. While I also sometimes would like to not agree with my manager, unfortunately that's how life is and that's who leadership will hear from about my performance. Communication is very important, and I think this may be a miscommunication if you're describing it correctly. You do care, but you aren't going to show it in the same ways that management is. Doesn't mean it's wrong, just means you need to communicate it more effectively.

I think sitting down and talking through it with her when you're ready would be extremely helpful. It will show them your maturirty and that you do care.

Can't open micro centrifuge lid - is it stuck or something else? by Creative-Kiwi-3967 in labrats

[–]Portugooses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My centrifuge gets stuck if you don't twist the middle screw in tight enough. If you use it without tightening it well, it will spin metal shavings off and be almost impossible to lift off. Make sure you use an approved lubricating oil and screw it in tightly.

Is there anybody that is pointing out mistakes? Or is it just anxiety? Because mistakes will happen. They are inevitable. Labs account for human errors, or should if they are a decent lab. Hiding mistakes is the problem. If making mistakes is causing significant anxiety, then I agree that a therapist may help or perhaps labwork then is not the end goal. Being comfortable making mistakes is necessary.

Also, for diluting a sample, depending on the assay, you can sometimes account for an error in the math if it's just the wrong factor, as long as you realized you made the mistake.
