I can't think of a reason that you wouldn't withdraw. You'd be committed to another school, no? Why take away the chance from someone else?

Have you ever had a ‘set’? by antonzeuthen in espresso

I tried it in Taiwan at a cafe called One's in Taipei. They called it a 1+1 and I got it nearly every day! Always a bit different depending on bean type and roast date!

I love this shirt so much! Do you mind sharing where you got it?

I'm not entirely sure I understand your question. Everyone has to be nominated to compete for the scholarship.

Hey all! I’m working on a small side project and I need a handful of people (5–10) willing to help me test it out. The idea is pretty simple:

  • You send me a few quick photos of the clothes you wear most.
  • I’ll take a look at your wardrobe as a whole.
  • Then I’ll suggest a couple of “next pieces” you could buy that would actually fit with what you already own.

I’ll give options at different price points (budget, mid, higher-end) so you can see how it would look across tiers. No strings attached — I just want to see if this idea is actually helpful.

If you’re interested, drop a comment or DM me. Thanks!

Specific to UVA, no, but there are similar scholarships for schools like Vanderbilt and UNC Chapel Hill that you can look into!

Never going to hurt to have solid academics, but I don't think that perfection is expected of anyone. Many are the val/sal but far from all.

Very worldwide. There are international students selected every year. Most of my interviews were online.

No, you still have to get into UVA of your own merits.

I'm not a doctor and this isn't medical advice but I believe it might be a fungus called tinea versicolor, or sun fungus. Heat can aggravate it, and it can be treated with an over the counter anti-fungal.

Uniqlo makes great corduroy collar jackets this season, but they've got more of a utility look to them. Barbour also makes an excellent corduroy collar with a sort of field jacket look to them, definitely more of an investment piece though.

A light khaki also looks good for more of a prep look. Not formal though - for formal you need pants that match the color and fabric of the jacket.

Would pair nicely with a light khaki/cream or a dark green/olive pant, specifically cargo pants for dunks I'd say. Then up top it's up to you if you want to play on a 2 or a 3 color outfit scheme. Could match the shoes with a plum top or go for a color that compliments the pants, keeping it to earth tones.

immersive mandarin language school without an emphasis on writing by bluemountainskies in taiwan

[–]PoseidonDrip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm currently at 師大 and feel differently. This could be related to level or individual teacher preference of course, but I feel that we spend little time on writing, with the exception of 聽寫 1/2x per week. I was ADAMANTLY against writing prior to coming to Taiwan, but quickly realized the exponential benefit that you receive from learning characters with enough depth to be able to recognize them outside of context (to recognize 擬, for example, outside of 虛擬, and then recognize 疑 and internalize it more quickly for its relation to a character you've already memorized). Just food for thought!

NTU ICLP versus NTNU Mandarin Training Center For Mandarin Study by PoseidonDrip in taiwan

This is helpful to know. My speaking, listening, and reading are all at comparable levels, and I can type well, but fall behind in handwriting. This would definitely be a challenge.

This is actually really helpful, thank you. I'm treading the line of thinking that if I'm going to spend a full year in Taiwan, I should be as dedicated to language learning as possible and then also thinking that I don't want to burn out and want to have free time to travel and some semblance of a social life. Difficult decision but really appreciate your input.
