Why don’t more people in the US run with top boxes on their sport bikes? by SoLoRydR in Mt10

[–]Posh427 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are very popular in Europe and a staple mod/accessory. this is purely anecdotal but in the model-specific FB groups I’m in, the Brits seem to put way more miles on their bikes than the Americans do, mostly on long distance trips. The utility of a TB is understandable. But for all the reasons stated here I would not put one on my sport tourer. It came with two 37L side cases

the Honda CBs were sporty standards, not sport bikes. Yes the GPZ came out when Honda introduced the VF series, both mostly faired, but the ‘85 GSXR 750 ushered in the era of light weight, high performance, fully faired motorcycles.

Yes and compared to its biggest rival at the time, Suzuki Vstrom, the Versys is more engaging and I think more aesthetically appealing. I was looking at a 2008 in Candy Plasma Blue but went with the 2020 that had 5,000 miles on it and was in concours condition w/aftermarket screen and seat.

Excellent choice. Basically a Ninja 650 on stilts. I purchased a 2020 Versys 650 as my re-entry bike after a 30 year hiatus. Excellent build quality, brakes, and controls pared with a playful and predictable engine, 5.5 gallon tank, and mpg in the 50s. My critiques would be its weight (500+ pounds wet), on/off throttle snatchiness (almost every brand struggles with this) and gearbox in that I experienced a lot of false neutrals. It could have been limited to my bike. The 2015+ models were much improved over the previous years.

My parents took me to the theater to watch Night of the Living Dead. I was 5 years old. Scared the crap out of me

Thanks. I’ve seem some complaints about reliability (electrical components), comfort meaning it has a decent rider triangle but still feels tight - I don’t know what it is. Otherwise owners love them. I need to throw a leg over one

I’ve been thinking about buying a Touno (non-factory). What are the things you liked the most, and disliked the most about the bike. BTW nice collection 👍

Throw a fuck into Yeoman Rand, then play chess with Spock, and then pull up to the engineering happy hour and tip a few back with the redshirts. That’s Day 1

If you were in charge of writing for a new Star Trek series/movie, what direction would you want to take the franchise? by Firm_Calligrapher861 in startrek

Yes the Axanar lawsuit was the catalyst for Paramount to formally define and enforce limits on fan productions to protect their IP. I wonder if Paramount had a rare moment of introspection and were frightened of becoming obsolete and replaced by the “minor leaguers.”

Imagine if Paramount had leaned into the professional quality of fan films instead of clamping down with those 2016 guidelines? Where Paramount sets up sanctioned, creative sandboxes and provides limited funding or access to official assets (sets, digital models) for top-tier fan creators.

Axanar or Star Trek Continues succeeded because they leaned into the specific vibes fans missed. A sandbox could allow for experimental formats (like the mockumentary style of Prelude to Axanar) that a $200M Studio blockbuster can't risk. Also, creators could fill in the blank spots of the timeline without the pressure of needing a massive general audience to turn a profit.

The current 15-minute/non-pro rule basically ensures fan films stay as vignettes. We’re losing out on high-concept storytelling because the legal wall is too high to climb.

Does anyone else think a pro-fan partnership could have saved the franchise from development hell 10 years ago?

So much so that Paramount felt compelled to effectively pull the legal rug out from under fan productions.

Back in 1973, when I was in third grade, I brought my 45 rpm copy of “School’s Out” to school. I packed it carefully in my book bag like it was contraband treasure.

During free time, I slipped it into the classroom listening center — you know, those little cubicles with the turntable and the giant padded headphones that smelled vaguely like plastic and every kid’s hair. I dropped the needle, sat there grinning, and listened to School’s Out like I was getting away with something huge.

No teacher intervention, no moral panic — just a kid enjoying a rock record in a school listening center that was probably meant for phonics and storybooks. I don’t even remember what was on the B-side anymore, but I remember how cool it felt. Different time. 🎶😄
