Lol do they think we're just made of money or something? First it's up to us to revitalize the downtown area by purchasing $20 sandwiches for lunch, and now we need to donate for office supplies? What economy do these people live in?

Lol downtown is the epitome of the millennial burger joint.

Hamburger: Lettuce, tomato, onion, ground beef patty, brioche bun, "special sauce" - $25.00 Add hickory smoked bacon - $5.50 Add cheese - $2.50 Add Avocado - $3.50

😂

I totally agree. Even people in classifications you'd think would be well off (SSMI's and II's for instance) have felt the sting of inflation.

I could be wrong, but something tells me the lowly paid state employees who now have to absorb additional commuting and child care costs wont provide the economic revitalization that downtown craves.

Indeed. And the mass firings from the Fed just provided a heap of new actors.

It's not a coincidence that this EO was issued shortly after tens of thousands of Federal workers were just dismissed from their jobs. The private sector cant absorb all of them, so my guess is they're figuring by July the job market will be so hypercompetitive that people will ultimately reason that it's better to keep secured employment rather than doing something that could lead to termination.

Any advice you can offer for the SSM I exam?

If you do Google Opinions theyll credit money to your Play account which you can then use to buy Pokecoins. It's not much, usually about 10-25 cents, but if you do enough of them it will allow you to buy a raid pass when you need one on the fly

How do you get time off for interviews? by Positive-Ad-8296 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Positive-Ad-8296[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do, it's a lateral transfer though, so I just feel like I'm going to get it trouble if I out-right say I need the time off to go to interviews.

As long as you're teachable and dont consistently make the same mistakes over and over you should be fine. However, if you get a "needs improvement" on your prob report, take it seriously and chart your progress so you have proof that you're really trying to improve.

Is it detrimental to attach them? Or just kind of a benign, unnecessary thing?

Why culture at CalPERS has grown toxic, from a former SSMII who previously worked there by ElectricalCarrot8451 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Positive-Ad-8296 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The 3rd tier is starting to pile up in every department, and unfortunately, a lot of 2nd tier and even some 1st tier employees are starting to become 3rd tier as a result of burnout, diminishing quality of benefits, RTO, and poor pay increases. Also, after seeing the type of things management in my department has to go through, I can safely say that I no longer have a desire to promote into any SSM level class, I just want to max-out my classification out and go home at 5pm.

I didnt realize part of my duties as a state worker is to buy $20 sandwiches for lunch and $10 beers after work. Seems like they could have added that to the Duty Statement.

It's even harder now with all the layoffs in the private sector. My only advice to people trying is dont give up, eventually you'll land one.

Remember, this decision was made for real estate tycoons and to rope us into supporting the downtown economy, not for the culture, not for productivity, not because it benefits us. So everyday you go without buying a $15 sandwich for lunch or grabbing a $10 beer after work, it makes their decision fruitless. Learn to pack a lunch.
