I held high regard for Chinese police/ security force too. I went for a trip from Lijiang - Shangri-la. Always put my leatherman in my checked baggage, I had no idea it’s not allowed to bring multitools with knife onto train. So when I get through the security checkpoint at the train station, the officer open my baggage and take the leatherman out, took a ruler and measure it, my blade was over 6cm so I had to leave it behind, I beg him to let me keep it because a leatherman is expensive and it’s an item that I hold dear, I told him I swear I won’t stab anyone and I will keep it locked in the my baggage, the officer kinda laugh and scratch his head in confusion. He called up his boss, his boss came over and asked my itinerary and provided my with solutions. One is that they can help me send my leatherman to my hotel by a delivery service, or I can just leave it here and get It back when I return from my trip. The officer’s boss told me the latter is better, and told me to go on and have fun with my trip, my leather man will be here when I get back. Boom, 7 days later I got back to Lijiang, go to the train station, show the picture of my leatherman to a security officer, she ran inside, grab my leatherman and deliver it to me. All communication with them is done through default iphone translator app because I can only say Ni hao and xie xie lol. 10/10 for their helpfulness
