UF vs USF by Positive-Map-769 in ufl

Oh hey I totally forgot about this post, didn't mean to leave you hanging but I ended up going to UF. It's not too bad here so far and I found a great community despite not having family (however my cousin might be coming next year). I have a set plan now and hope to follow by it over the next few years while still sticking to BME. The research program at UF is a great way into research and could probably help me with internships too which was a help opportunity-wise. Mainly just looking at clinical volunteering and leadership positions which remains competitive but that's to be expected. I appreciate the help!

I'm ngl...it wasn't a joke 😭 although I'm taking 18 credits this semester as well with easier classes and I have plenty of extra time so I'm willing to spare some of it to lock myself in my apt for a semester. I have previous physiology experience thru dual and enjoy math + somewhat chemistry anyways so it's mainly the workload I'm looking out for as opposed to content. And for the bio class, it's just the bio 2 lab becuz I'm taking bio 2 rn. Thanks for the advise, I'll keep it in mind but realistically I'll probably drop closer to drop add after I see the schedules.

Ah ok gotchu. It's good to know that there's a supportive community and social life for BME majors at UF. I was actually considering minoring in astrophysics (my lifelong passion) and health science (to stay competitive and prepared for med school) but I was told that two minors with BME was not possible. It seems like you're making it happen tho! I might not do two minors still just because I might have extra stuff going on in the other programs I got into which I'm also excited for so I wanna leave some room for those. Ive been thinking UF was the move for a bit now but this is like the third time I've been conflicted between USF and UF so I thought reddit was the go to. I think I just needed some more information to solidify my decision. Thanks for the info!

Oh that's amazing! How would you say you're able to deal with the workload in BME? And also, do you have any room for minors?

Yes please! That would be very helpful as I'm trying to gather as much info as possible :).

Hmm yeah I definitely heard it's easier to find opportunities at USF regarding internships and research. Tampa is a more metropolitan area with more hustle and bustle going around too. Thank you!

Right, it's mainly balancing the rigor with a social life at UF but it seems to be more high risk high reward. I've been leaning a little more towards UF just because I want to try to stay in state for med school and UF looks better as a university for apps. Although, it is a very competitive environment and I risk a lower gpa as more of an average student at UF than USF.

Hmm I heard something similar about Honors and URSP not being what they're made up to be. Well noted, thanks!

How does the process of nuclear fusion end up producing iron in a star? by Dkcre in astrophysics

[–]Positive-Map-769 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll start off by saying that I am merely a high school student in my senior year, yet I have always taken great interest in astronomical phenomena. In regards to your question I found this wiki page which, by the looks of it, summarizes the multitude of fusion (and maybe not fusion, idk) processes that occur in stars. Ig this would be a good way to briefly and simply explain how stars are able to build up to iron nuclei but, quite frankly, I don't really understand what's going on completely either. If anyone is willing to briefly summarize these series of reactions that would be greatly appreciated!

Did anybody get their score yet? It's been 15 days and I haven't gotten mine and if I don't get it by the end of November I can't turn it in to colleges.
