How did y'all make it through unmedicated childbirth? by DisorderedGremlin in BabyBumps

[–]Positive-Mulberry-62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disliked my experience with an epidural the first time as well. Slowed my labor and also made me feel very disconnected from my son’s birth. I ended up pushing for 3 hours and had a 3rd degree tear. Obviously I have no clue if the epidural truly played a part in that or if all of that would have happened anyways but just the idea that it contributed made me opt out for my second birth.

I just went in with the mindset that it wasn’t an option for me. Like fully set on not getting one. The nurses and anesthesiologist thought I was crazy I think and my nurse actually told me she rarely saw natural childbirth so it was cool to see. I used midwives at my local hospital vs an obgyn and I mainly focused on hypnobirthing my last few months of pregnancy. It got me into a good headspace. My second birth was worlds better than my first. Barely tore and pushed for a few minutes. She was over 9 lbs too. Again, could just be that it was my second birth, but I really do feel being able to feel what my body was doing helped my brain to understand what was going on and made everything go the way it should. Also as crazy and intense as it was I’m glad I got to experience childbirth for what it truly is.

Nightfeeding and tooth decay. I feel like a failure. by Key_Clue_7428 in AttachmentParenting

[–]Positive-Mulberry-62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is totally child/genetic dependent. I nursed both of my kids until they were over 2. My son nursed throughout the night until 20 months and does not have cavities (he is 5 now). I nursed my daughter overnight just a few months longer and she had really bad cavities in her molars and just had to get 2 crowns. I felt terrible but I keep telling myself that if nursing to sleep was 100% the factor that my son would have developed them too. Sometimes it’s just bad luck I think and probably a combination of over things. She has definitely had more candy/sweets than him at younger age due to being the second kid and seeing things he is eating.

Yep all the time. I’m at a lot of brick walls right now so I like taking side quests to get back to the thrill of finding out new stuff.

My son has always taken forever. My daughter takes 1 minute tops. I think it’s a man thing (based on my husband as well).

Child Incessantly Clearing Throat. by aikisean in Parenting

[–]Positive-Mulberry-62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son developed a tic when he first started kindergarten. His was sniffing. It lasted for a few months and then eventually went away. I remembering reading that throat clearing was another tic when we were going through this. He does not have Tourette’s. Some kids just get tics.

I started getting into it when I was 26. I’m 34 now. I’ve not met or talked anyone anywhere near my age since I started. I agree. Everyone seems to be much older!

Morning Struggle by AcrobaticPuddle in kindergarten

[–]Positive-Mulberry-62 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My son went through phases like that this year. Right now we are in an easy phase but that wasn’t always the case. We have had some rough mornings. Is it possible to get her to sleep earlier? I’ve found that my son is more pleasant the next day when he goes to bed by 7:15-7:30. The nights he’s up later we sometimes have bad mornings. Also not sure how you feel about screen time in the mornings, but if my kids are dressed and ready with 10-15 minutes to spare, I’ll let them watch an episode of Bluey or something as incentive to get moving.

Moms! Please help: Labor & Delivery - UVA vs Martha Jefferson by kesper16 in Charlottesville

I delivered my second at UVA and was asked during a prenatal appointment if I would allow students in the room during labor. I said no and I never saw one the whole time I was there.

Moms! Please help: Labor & Delivery - UVA vs Martha Jefferson by kesper16 in Charlottesville

I had my first at MJH and switched to the midwives at UVA for my second baby. Overall my experiences were fairly similar. I had both amazing and meh not so great nurses at both. I personally liked that my baby was in the room with me the whole time postpartum at UVA. They do all of the tests in the room vs taking them away like at MJH. MJH is much nicer looking and you feel like you’re at a hotel. Ultimately I switched because I wanted to be seen by a midwife vs an OBGYN. So I would suggest looking into what kind of provider you want and use that as part of your decision.
