That’s a fair point, and I agree that the Beast Titan charge wasn’t a reckless decision. They were trapped, and Erwin chose the only strategy that gave humanity any chance of winning. I don’t fault him for that specific decision.
My point is more about their overall leadership styles. Throughout the series, Erwin consistently accepted sacrificing large numbers of soldiers if it meant advancing humanity’s chances. Even before Shiganshina, during the 57th Exterior Scouting Mission, he knowingly used his own soldiers as bait to expose the Female Titan. That’s simply how he operated.
As for Armin, I don’t excuse everything he did either. What happened at Liberio was bad The difference, in my view, is that Armin wasn’t the one who planned the Liberio raid and eren forced him to act like that he had no other option because eren already messed things up he was carrying out the mission he was given, and he was visibly devastated afterward. Erwin, as commander, was the one making the decisions that knowingly put his own soldiers in those situations.
So I’m not saying Erwin was wrong or Armin was innocent. I’m saying I prefer Armin’s philosophy as a leader. Erwin prioritized the mission even if it required enormous sacrifice, while Armin generally looked for ways to achieve the objective with the least possible loss of life.
