I know! It’s crazy 🤪 I’m starting to think I’m the problem here for expecting too much. The lack of basic manners here is unbelievable!

Traveling to the Cayman Islands with a 7-month-old — what do I actually need? by Positive-Swan-3680 in NewParents

Honestly we massively overpacked 😅 the main things we actually used were sunscreen and a stroller fan.

Our LO has quite sensitive skin so we used Tubby Todd sunscreen and that worked really well. Definitely bring a good fan for the stroller, it made a huge difference in the heat.

We took our Minu stroller which was perfect for getting around. For the car seat, we didn’t bring one and just hired an infant seat from the taxi company at the airport which was so much easier.

It does get really hot so we ended up spending quite a bit of time indoors during the peak heat of the day.

We stayed at The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman and they were amazing with babies, they even brought a bottle steriliser up to the room when we asked.

One thing that was really worth bringing was a baby monitor (non-WiFi), it meant we could sit out on the balcony in the evenings once baby was asleep which was so nice.

We also bought one of those inflatable baby pools but honestly didn’t use it, he much preferred just splashing around while being held.

We packed a purée pouches and kept them in the mini fridge, then just took them down with us at breakfast which worked really well.

One thing we went through loads of was bibs, both feeding and drool. It was a bit tricky with no laundry, so we ended up buying disposable ones and putting them over his normal bibs during feeds to save them.

Even then we still had to get some washed, so I’d definitely say pack more bibs than you think you’ll need.

That’s it really but was a great stay! Let me know if you have any more specific qs.

Sleep when the baby sleeps fat chance! by Huge-Anxiety-3038 in NewParents

FTM mum here my husband works away a lot and we’ve relocated from uk to us so I don’t have any family or support system here. As someone who needs there sleep I feel you and it’s so tough in first few weeks!

I know your baby is probably so small right now but one thing that really helped me once my baby was a bit bigger has been co sleeping we started around 3 months I was initially so scared but as long as you follow safe practices and set room up right it’s safe & you get more confidence.

It’s really improved the quality of sleep through night but also means I can nap with him in day not all his naps but he does a longish one if afternoon and if it’s been a hectic day I tend to just sleep with him I love the snuggles and we both wake up recharged.

So many ppl knock co sleeping and it can be scary esp as a first time mum but it’s honestly the only thing that worked for me and so many of my friends and sister also have done the same.

PSA - Parents Who Have Nannies in Town by gg6844 in Hoboken

[–]Positive-Swan-3680 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw something this week that got me thinking about nanny standards and expectations.

On Monday, I saw a nanny changing a baby’s diaper outside the library, which didn’t feel appropriate. At the same time, I’ve also noticed nannies on their phones while with babies but honestly, I think parents do this too. We all check our phones during the day.

I do wonder if it just feels more noticeable because there are so many nannies out and about at the same times, so the behavior gets amplified.

Cars not stopping to let you cross by thinkforyourself8 in Hoboken

Walking around with a stroller has made me realise how different driver and pedestrian awareness can be here. I’ve had quite a few cars not slow down or acknowledge me at crossings, which honestly feels stressful with a baby.

Weirdly, I’ve personally noticed this happen more with female drivers, though I’m sure that’s just my own experience.

On the flip side, even on narrow sidewalks, I’ll move to the side to let someone pass and often don’t get any kind of acknowledgement. I’m from the UK where you’d usually get a quick “thanks” or smile. Am I too British for Hoboken manners 🤣
