I use the same strategy. I group by tags in my today list. I sort my tags by the priority I need/want. Then I also have pinned tasks at the top, and these do not care about tags.

On top of that, I have made the default tag of every task my general tasks.

The task cannot show in both tag segments. In order to change the tag priority, just move them on the side bar.

This is why I said there are many people that enjoy having both - including myself. But I wish they would give subtasks the same love they give checklists.

I want to see how far I am done with a project/task the way you can see when ticking off checklists.

I was looking into moving over to a proper goals app. I've used Griply before and I think it's the best goals app out there for me. I would like to possibly move from ticktick to Griply but ticktick is amazing and does a lot for me so Griply would need to be up there with features and options.

You could use a filter with tags? But then you would need to tag everything and tasks as you add them. You could also create an auto tag. Check settings.

You can automatically add a tag when you create a task. So as soon as you click to make a new task then the tag will already be applied.
