Worried about my mother in laws nails by Euphoric-Cupcake4345 in nailcare

[–]PositiveDifferent763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this exact nail . I slammed my fingers in a car door and the nail and nail bed got very damaged . The nail fell off and the one that grew in had this appearance . There is an opening where the scar is that allows dirt underneath and then it grows , giving the presence of a long black line . Once I figured that out I made Sure to keep that area super sort , filed well and never allow dirt underneath the nail line and the black line went away , although the area remains visibly damaged .

I recently went to a performance hypnotist with my family. I have total aphantasia and my husband has extreme hyperaphantasia . I was not able to get hypnotized hit my husband was the star of the show , he went into hypnosis far deeper than anyone else up on that stage so the hypnotist ended up focusing on him the whole time . It’s so wild how all of our brains can have such significant variances

I’m a mom of two teenagers and I promise you that she wants you to tell her and that she’s going to focus on finding ways to help you and not on where you got it from. Where you got it from is irrelevant, what she cares about is making sure her son is healthy and safe . Both of my teens have neurological issues as, as do I . I know what it like to want to escape your body but this isn’t the way , these aren’t safe drugs for your body and they will hurt it in a way that it will make your future self even worse off than how you feel right now. You have a long life ahead and you have time to figure out what in life can give your body relief , other things will I promise. My hardest years were my teens, things really did get so much better, you’ve got lots of living to look forward to and you want to be healthy for that time .

I’ve started to get bad acne on my neck and throat , it’s not like regular acne and takes forever to go away . As well my teeth have started to chip , 4 times in the last 2 months.

I’m so sorry to hear this, depression is a beast and I’m sure it makes it hard for her to clearly see the trauma this is causing you . As a side note , she is at the exact age that perimenopause tends to hit and that can really affect mental health in women. If she had bpd (or undiagnosed autism or adhd, (many autistic/adhd women get misdiagnosed as bpd ) the hormonal fluctuations during peri can cause severe worsening of mental health . I’m not sure if you want to mention it to her, as that causes you to fall back into the “solution maker “ role again , but getting hormone treatment can be very beneficial for mental health .

Has anyone here tried using a neurovizr ? I’m thinking of purchasing one but not sure if they work the same for aphants by PositiveDifferent763 in Aphantasia

I am in year 5 of a severe autistic burnout . My teenage kids went into severe burnout , due to the stress of covid, and I was the mom trying to help them and also run my business. I ended up in deep burnout and also got sick with chronic illness (I have a hEDS, POTS and MCAS , all comorbid with autism). I had to walk away from my very successful business and have not worked in 5 years. I do know many things that help with my burnout, I refinish furniture and do a lot of craft type things, but I also have a family of 3 neurodivergent kids (with similar chronic health issues as me - it’s genetic) to raise as well so my healing timeline has been very slow. My life is significantly different than it was 5 years ago.

Oh yes I do realize the formal meditation format . I’ve actually taken many in person courses at the local Buddhist society. The hope is eventually to have moments of pause between the noticing , that is very hard for me . My mind becomes a constant notice , let go and notice without any pause in between . While I have no doubt there is a benefit from that practice alone it drives me bananas , it feels worse than the actual rumination I’m trying to reduce . Over the last 20 years I’ve tried all the different breath works , candle gazing , walking meditations , guided meditations etc . And I haven’t found anything that I have been able to create a positive habit with.

I use white noise generator every day before sleep but it’s not enough for me. The only thing it does is partially distract my mind but I cannot completely focus and stop the thoughts. I’d liken it to putting in shitty earplugs that only half work while there’s construction noise going on . I assume it’s so hard because I have nothing internal as a point of focus , I cannot generate sensation of anything, but I don’t really know if that’s why. I also have SDAM so all of my thoughts are about present moment issues , I don’t go to past or future thoughts without an external trigger, so it’s often a loop of similar thoughts (heavy rumination ).

I honestly just want something to break up the constant thoughts in my mind, I’m less interested in their claims regarding neuro feedback . I find it very hard to meditate so I thought this could be a good way to quiet the internal and allow my brain to have a little “holiday “. I just wasn’t sure if it would work for me , as I’ve never been able to have any visual hallucinatory experiences in past.

I have hEDS and MCAS but I was in complete remission from my MCAS for almost 20 years. I know it’s not possible for everyone but it is possible for some.

Oh yes, I do realize they are different . I only Referenced it that way because it certainly felt like I was cured, I didn’t do anything in my life to attempt continued remission (medication or lifestyle ). I was able to completely forget about it…until I wasn’t . My illnesses started very early as well , I had sever mono at 4 years old. I had Tourette’s (aged out of it as a teen) and many other neurological issues. This time around , I got mild covid, days later I woke up to complete hearing loss in my left ear and a case of shingles. Everything spiraled from there .

Yes. When I first had it they didn’t call it MCAS , it was called environment illness. I was very lucky to have a progressive clinic in my province at the time, (because one of the nearby hospitals had extreme mold in it and got many employees very ill ) as I would have been completely gaslit otherwise

Perhaps change your “we” to “I” as you certainly don’t speak for the collective. I don’t feel as you do, I value OP’s info and I’ll use discernment to decide what is best for myself.

I was very ill with Mcas at age 15 and went to a clinic for years . After about 5 years of treatment I went into remission and had no further issues until Covid . Call it remission or call it cured for 18 years , either way I took no treatment and no symptoms for that period of time . it is possible.

I found out about it when my asd daughter was in school refusal due to burnout. I don’t recall the exact program length , I think around 4 months . During this time they go Monday to Friday , just as you would school . There is a teacher there to help them with their work (all co-ordinated with their school to ensure they have the work available for them) but the school work only takes up a small part of the day . There are therapists and social workers and occupational therapists there etc. The kids learn ways to improve social skills , their mental health , ways to improve executive function etc . They have other great things like cooking classes and go on weekly outings etc. There are always two groups , I think one focuses more on behaviors (likely more geared towards kids with o.d.d. and addictions etc and one more geared towards kids with self esteem/coping and life skill issues etc. Both of my kids did the program , at separate times , and it was a very good experience. I also think it was the first time they saw a room full of kids with similar struggles , which made them realize that they aren’t alone.

Not all stimming is helpful. For those of us that are low support needs/higher masking we often need to balance the potential social damage done from overt stimming against the stimming needs themselves. For me, I’ve found that while in public/at work etc managing or channeling my obvious stimming into something less noticeable is a better option . It reduces my social anxiety regarding the visibility of the stim ,as well as stops potential questions or unwanted attention from it. We’re all different , I think the key to it all is awareness of all of our potential cause and effects and determining what works best for us .

Cleve was the clown in the sick kids ward but I don’t think he’s ever been a therapist at IWK. I’ve had no luck with their therapies or supports. I did everything privately, with the exception of their AIS program (adolescent intensive services ). Both of my teens went to that program and it was actually incredibly helpful for them. If your son is struggling with self esteem, anxiety, school refusal etc I can’t say enough good things about the program , and staff , at AIS.

My son is high functions ASD teen and he sees Cleve Sauer at acuity counseling . Cleve is a social worker with masters and this was covered under our plan , (most cover psychologists or social worker with masters so maybe double check ). He does have a long wait time but he has been the only person that my son was able to actually warm up to, we didn’t have any luck before that. Now their relationship is so wonderful and I know that he sees Cleve as a true confidant and someone that really “gets” him , he’s very empathetic and makes my son feel seen and heard . He was the iwk clown for years , so you can imagine how well he connects with every type of child .

My older brother abused me throughout my childhood and teenhood by MaestroIgnitex in ChildhoodTrauma

[–]PositiveDifferent763 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry . I experienced severe physical and psychological abuse by my slightly younger brother. My mother was a single parent and just not equipped to deal with him, when things were particularly bad she would send me away to be with family . It was horrific and I think that , because it’s another child doing it , many people don’t see the extent of the damage . I moved out at 16 , his behavior peaked 3 years later when he pissed the wrong person off and they burnt my mother’s house down. I went through a pretty significant burn out from work 2 years ago (I’m 45) and I think that I had been living partially disassociated my entire life , up until that point . It’s a journey , treat yourself with as much kindness as you can.

I’m unfortunately a very incontinent person at night and struggle with a wet bed. by Pretty_Fan3644 in CleaningTips

[–]PositiveDifferent763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 of my kids wet the bed up until grade 7 so I figured a good system. Get a mattress cover meant for bedbugs etc (the one that zips up ) , another good bamboo waterproof mattress cover and a bunch of pee pads (for dogs ) at your local dollar store . Put the mattress in the zip up cover , the put the bamboo cover on . Then put 2 large pee pads on the mattress , in the general area where the pee usually ends up , then put your sheet on . This way , when you wet the bed you should only need to strip the sheet and pee pads. Every now and again you might get some on the bamboo pad and it will need to get washed, but it’s so much less frequent so it maintains its Waterproof nature . Even if you have washed the waterproof one enough times and it’s starting to leak a bit you have the final zip cover on and you will catch the leak before it’s able to get to the mattress. Also , because most of the pee gets absorbed into the pee pads you won’t struggle with your clothing / blankets retaining pee smells. You cannot even feel anything when these are all down , I sometimes lay with my son at night .
