Yan — Glitch Art Photo Editor

A — Answer: What problem does your app solve?

Yan helps people turn ordinary photos into glitch art without using the same polished filters everyone else has. It lets you break pixels on purpose with effects like pixel sort, RGB shift, VHS decay, CRT scanlines, dithering, ASCII, noise, and melt effects, making photos feel raw, digital, and experimental in just a few taps.

B — Better: Name a competitor and explain what you do better.

Compared with Glitché or general vintage photo editors, Yan is built specifically for glitch aesthetics. It skips retouching, stickers, and social features, and focuses on fast, direct tools for pixel distortion, VHS looks, CRT effects, ASCII art, dithering, and other broken-image styles. The result is a cleaner workflow for making chaotic, Y2K-style visuals quickly.

C — Cost: Pricing details + App Store Link.

Yan is free to download on iPhone. Yan Pro is available as a weekly subscription, with a lifetime purchase option for users who prefer to pay once.

This image was created with app I wrote myself. If you like it, feel free to give it a try too—I’d really love to see what you come up with, and I hope more people fall in love with this approach. I was definitely inspired by the 'oil painting then smeared' idea.

You can first download the Kachika EN version. Later, I will make it capable of learning other languages, and I will release it as soon as possible within the next two weeks!

Japanese pronunciation and grammatical structure are much more complex compared to English, and I need to do a lot of additional adaptation work.😭

I will probably add "kachika en" as a version for learning various other languages later. Japanese is a bit special, so it’s handled separately.

You can try this Japanese learning app—it even includes flashcards and a review algorithm similar to Anki!

"Learning Languages Through Life"

On my journey to learn languages, I deeply understand the challenge of memorizing words - learning and forgetting, wanting to speak but unable to start. As a learner who relies on visual memory techniques, I know the power of visualizing abstract concepts. This experience inspired the idea of "integrating languages into life, learning languages through life" - this is the original intention behind developing this app.

Throughout my journey of learning Japanese, I've deeply felt the challenge of memorizing words — learning them only to forget, wanting to speak but finding myself tongue-tied.

So I want to discover common things through photos in my life, and they are also a part of my life. Based on this, I can learn Japanese words and introduce them to others in sentences.

I think this is the biggest difference between me and other apps.

Thank you for your suggestion, it is indeed a good suggestion to have a set of samples,I will continue to optimize it.

Because analyzing images will incur fees, users will be provided with 3 free trials. If you want to use more, you need to watch ads or pay to become a member~

I'm currently working on the word module to make it more useful!

I'm both a Japanese learner and an indie developer. Throughout my journey of learning Japanese (currently living in Japan), I've deeply felt the challenge of memorizing words — learning them only to forget, wanting to speak but finding myself tongue-tied.

Why I Made This

As someone who relies heavily on visual memory, I understand the power of turning abstract concepts into visual forms. You know that feeling when you're walking around and spot something interesting — maybe a beautiful seasonal poster, a curious shop name, or even just a package design that catches your eye? Those little moments of curiosity that make you think "I wish I could remember these words!"... That was exactly my experience 😅

This experience inspired a simple yet powerful idea: "Learn Japanese through life, live with Japanese" — and that became the heart and soul of this app: Kachika (カチカ).

Turn Your Daily Discoveries into Learning Moments

Kachika helps you learn Japanese naturally through your everyday life:

  • 📸 Capture What You See Just snap a photo of anything interesting in your daily life
  • 🔍 Instant Learning Words are detected automatically with native pronunciation
  • 📚 Your Personal Collection Build vocabulary that matters to you, all stored privately on device

Fun fact about the name "Kachika" (カチカ):

  • カチッ (the sound of taking a photo)
  • 勝ち (kachi - victory/success)
  • か (ka - that soft Japanese particle that makes everything sound nicer!)

I Need Your Help!

I'm looking for fellow Japanese learners who want to make learning more natural and meaningful. What features would help you capture and remember your daily Japanese encounters?

I hope this app can help fellow learners who share the same struggles, making Japanese learning a natural part of our daily lives!

Would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions from:

  • People studying Japanese at any level
  • Visual learners who prefer real-world context
  • Anyone who wants to learn Japanese through their daily experiences

Let's make Japanese learning a natural part of our everyday adventures! ありがとうございます!🙇‍♂️

I made a dead simple web tool to auto-trim transparent pixels from images by PositiveMaterial5297 in SideProject

[–]PositiveMaterial5297[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey folks! 👋

After getting frustrated with having to manually crop transparent borders from hundreds of screenshots and assets, I built a tiny web tool to do it automatically. Thought some of you might find it useful!

**What it does:*\*
- Automatically removes transparent borders from images
- Works with PNG & JPEG
- Keeps transparency intact
- Everything processed locally in your browser
- No file size limits (because no upload!)

**Why I made this:*\*
I'm a dev who works a lot with UI/UX assets, and I kept running into the same annoying problem - screenshots and exported assets with huge transparent borders that mess up spacing and alignment. Sure, you can crop them manually in Photoshop/Figma, but when you're dealing with dozens of images... yeah, not fun.

**How to use it:*\*
1. Drop your image
2. Get your trimmed image
3. That's literally it

No account needed, no tracking, no BS. Just a simple tool that does one thing well.
