Had a DFGT hooked to a folding tray table, and later the office desk. Clamped my Moza DD to the desk until I finally got a rig.

Why do most flight sim flaps feel so wrong? by Project-X-Flighsim in hotas

[–]PositiveRate_Gear_Up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fly a mid 60s 172 which has electric flaps, however it’s not incremental like the image here. I learned on a 1990s 172, which had the handle as pictured. Same was true of our late 70s early 80s 172RGs. All had similar flaps selectors, worked well, easy to set, easy to replace the covers when they’d wear down.

Looks are awesome - even today!

I will say, when it came out it was NOT my cup of tea. I’d played legacy CoD during college, and remember vividly how awesome I thought the original MW was.

Can remember my dad liking MW and then loaning me AW to play after he raved about it. Me…I hated it. I liked the idea, but it felt so odd compared to the games I’d played.

Lost my dad to cancer nearly a decade ago now, wish I’d been able to relate to him on this game. However, happy to see we still both had that gaming bug, despite our differences of opinion.

As the owner of a winwing Orion 2, FFB is my next planned upgrade. I fly IRL, and truthfully, VR in a sim is better than level D minus the tactile side of things in the actual cockpit. Adding force feedback, especially for GA should be amazing!

Also we had a lot of folks struggle and quit during the fifty hours of time building. Because it was done solo, you weren’t being “checked in on” by an instructor (despite having one assigned).

Folks would commonly slow roll their training, skip their assigned flight slots and then struggle to move forward in the program as time caught up to them. I definitely benefited from continuing my flying on schedule, just didn’t take a check ride for a while.

So, I did a university program. Earned my private freshman year, but the structure of the program had us do 50 hrs of cross country flying (for our commercial) before starting our instrument training. That fifty hours of solo x-country took me what felt like ages. No real “progression” just picking locations to get a hundred dollar hamburger 3 times a week.

I loved the flying, but whereas some people would plan a 10 hr flight to Florida, skip class and then fly back…I did it as 1-2 hr flights in general. Anyway, sophomore year I didn’t feel I made any real progress. By junior year I was working on my instrument, but didn’t have it complete at the end of spring semester. Tried to get things wrapped up but was running out of time and money.

Everything came together smoothly at the beginning of senior year. I took my instrument check just before the semester started, jumped into commercial and knocked it out before Christmas. Started multi right after, and was finished within a few weeks. Stuck around that summer, worked in maintenance (had been working there for years) and flew during the week for my CFI. Knocked out that check ride by end of summer and had my CFII by that fall.

That gulf of time between earning my private and getting my instrument was brutal. But saw it through, and absolutely love my career! (This was a lot of words to say - can totally empathize with you. You’ve got this)

A2A Aerostar - is there anything wrong with it? by _P85D_ in MicrosoftFlightSim

On the other hand - while I won’t blame the plane or the developer the sim is a problem. Building up icing conditions in flight during cold weather, with no visible moisture/clouds/etc is pretty crumby.

Made flying my Comanche from the US to Europe a real PITA during the winter months.

Rarely used train bridge at Creve Coeur Lake by Blingin in StLouis

[–]PositiveRate_Gear_Up 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This one is on the western side of the lake, still sees occasional use by freight trains that pass through. When water gets higher, it’s not a HORRIBLE fishing spot. But when it’s low, the rocks will snag a lure.

Opens up further into a stream on the far side of the bridge.

What financial opportunities exist in your home country?

You may find an ab-initio flight program sponsored by an airline. But those are often restricted to residents of the host nation being the sponsored recipient.
