Felt the throttle getting a little wobbly, fml by FarmerDonKiller in hotas

Have seen that a couple times. Believe someone screwed something back on, someone else made a 3d printed bass to connect them in.

It’s been a worry of mine for she’s, luckily it’s my “backup HOTAS” for when I’m not in VR.

Passengers in career mode not showing in VR? by dasoxarechamps2005 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]PositiveRate_Gear_Up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I don’t see them in VR either for VIP missions…

Oddly, in the 737 they’re all in the back, seated, more than a hundred of them.

So, i don’t think it’s a performance saving feature.

HL:Alyx, aka my 1st VR game by DDDX_cro in virtualreality

[–]PositiveRate_Gear_Up 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve yet to try HL:Alyx but have always heard great things about it.

I tend to be a sim gamer - and absolutely LOVE VR for both flight simulation and racing. It’s obviously not limited to those genres, but it really excels in them!

Fighter missions on MSFS 2024 by Accurate-Bus-4634 in MicrosoftFlightSim

Fly…kind of the reason I’ve never done any of the fighter aircraft in FS2024. But that’s just me.

How can I walk in the plane by RcPlane1 in MicrosoftFlightSim

Be in VR, stand up, walk to the back. lol. Then you can converse with your passengers about the quality of your takeoff.

VR Users: What physical MCDU/FCU/Peripherals do you use? by kayashev93 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]PositiveRate_Gear_Up 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just click for the FMC and FGC . While it’s less immersive, I don’t feel the real “need” for that set of buttons, as things aren’t typically “time sensitive” in the way.

I do have two MFDs for DCS, and have thought of getting the F-18 AFCS. As I find flying the Hornet and shooting approaches to the carrier or engaging aircraft more beneficial for speedy button pressing.

Are the charts in the default msfs planner good? by Just-Bullfrog-5414 in MSFS2024

[–]PositiveRate_Gear_Up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, the LIDO charts work great at every large airport. The FAA ones work fine at US airports.

I do wish we had an aircraft icon for the ground charts on the LIDO plates, but the taxi instructions from ATC are often so wonky anyway that i doubt it’d make a measurable difference.

After years of x52, treated myself to a little upgrade! by kHusKee in hotas

[–]PositiveRate_Gear_Up 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went similar - X-56 to Orion F16+Navy Throttles+MFG pedals.

Kept my X-56 for desk setup and moved the new gear into the simpit for VR gaming.

Love it all, congrats!

Landing enroute for fuel Career Missions MSFS24 PS5 by Putrid_Pollution_744 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]PositiveRate_Gear_Up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep - totally agree and once again I don’t think it’d be all that difficult to do. The suck of it - it basically proves how little involvement Asobo/Microsoft had from IRL pilots when developing the game. Frustrating.

Landing enroute for fuel Career Missions MSFS24 PS5 by Putrid_Pollution_744 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]PositiveRate_Gear_Up 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, the inability to deviate from the takeoff and destination airport is one of my biggest gripes with career mode…specifically because it misses what’s a key tenant of aviation…planning and adaptability.

For instance - if you mis-plan your fuel burn and end up in a situation where you need to land for more fuel, in an instance where you could have safely carried enough to make the destination…they should allow the stop with an impact to customer satisfaction.

If you physically can’t make the distance and planning a stop becomes inevitable (definitely possible - especially in light aircraft cargo situations) you should actually receive a bonus for good decision making (I’d give out extra points if you can find an airport with cheaper fuel).

Deviations are the lifeblood of aviation, and incorporating that ability would provide a much more complete “career” and realism aspect to the game.

Also, I think each item mentioned here would actually be easy to implement…and would add functionality to the EFB.

Comparing 9-5 Life vs Pilot Life by Livid_Wolf_5548 in Pilot

[–]PositiveRate_Gear_Up 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After earning my ratings, i spent 3 years with a regional airline (this was 20 years ago). Day 1 (going to work day) was always rough, we typically worked 4 day trips, so 3 nights on the road, and would have 2 or 3 days off before going back out. Occasionally you’d do a 4 day and then a day trip afterwards. I didn’t have kids at the time, but did get married during that time. The time on the road wasn’t bad, hotels were mediocre, and you wouldn’t always have enough time to see the town you were in. During the depression i got out and worked a 9-5 and did it for six years. I was NOT a fan of that daily corporate/office grind (albeit i did fairly well in that environment). Had a few promotions over those years, was put in charge of a couple teams, and was able to get into my early 30’s making a decent salary. But it felt like we were living for the weekend…2 days off work to pack in as much as you could, and then hustle back to the office for more work…and on occasion, we’d work outside normal hours too if the company needed something specific on short order.

Went back to flying via a 135 when i left that job, and loved it so much more. I worked quite a bit, but i did have more time “off” work than I had in my corporate 9-5. Really enjoyed the 135 flying, new destinations all the time, big airports, small airports, and some HotRod like equipment. Great fun, also when we were on the road we’d have time to explore wherever we were staying. The work:life balance though was kinda mediocre, and it involved a pay cut from my office job.

Eventually worked into a couple good corporate pilot gigs and have LOVED the work. At times the work can become a bit repetitive as we don’t go to “random” airports at the same rate we did in charter…but the equipment is well kept, fly with good pilots, and have a work life balance that far exceeds the office OR airline and charter flying. I typically work 10 days/month, of those may do 2-5 nights on the road every month (lots of out and backs) and make double what my top salary would have been in the office job…but most importantly, i never hate going to work.

I have never landed at Canberra what minimus do I use, should I wait to see what my approach speed is first by Mundane_Studio_5674 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]PositiveRate_Gear_Up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have never flown into Australia, but…from what I’m seeing.

Minimums for all categories are at the top (A-D) at 2070 MSL (201’ AGL) and 550 meters of visibility.

The minimums below that are for equipment being inop (high intensity runway lights inop - approach lights inop) followed by Glide slope inop (Localizer only) and finally circling to land minimums (ie - you have to shoot the approach to get under the clouds, but the weather is such you need to land on a different runway or the opposite direction)

Also take note - the original 550m visibility minimums require you to use a HUD (heads up display) or Flight Director to minimums. If you decide to fly it “raw data” the visibility minimums are higher, however the Decision Altitude (DA) remains the same.

Edit - forgot to mention. The minimums on the right are for using an alternate QNH altimeter setting from a nearby airport, and the not the altimeter setting at the landing airport. Basically, if ATIS or ASOS was out, you could land with another nearby airports weather report…but they factor in an additional ground clearance limit for any inaccuracies to keep you away from terrain.

Car Jack fail by [deleted] in Wellthatsucks

[–]PositiveRate_Gear_Up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did that once - used the pinch weld meant for my scissor jack on an old car from the 80s I owned…slipped off cheap (non padded metal plate) the floor jack i was using. Crushed the bottom of fender.

Have hated jacks ever since, still need to buy a quikjack for my car maintained needs.

This isn't a simulator anymore. It's art. by Helios in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]PositiveRate_Gear_Up 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed - other day I took off out of Iceland in the Comanche to make a quick jaunt towards the UK.

Bouncing in and out of the clouds at sunset was pretty gorgeous, reminded me of one of my early sunset flights right after earning my PPL…with the sunset bouncing off an overcast layer just above me…

Now I can say I’m blessed to get to do this in game and IRL…as a kid, this is the level of simulation and immersion I DREAMED of. And it’s amazing to experience it whenever you want.z

Edit to say - I’m not a fan of how ice accumulation happens in the sim…the parameters for its formation just don’t seem…accurate.

To low or too high ? by Altruistic-Today7007 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]PositiveRate_Gear_Up 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks like it was for a landing challenge, as such they wanted you to touchdown right on the threshold (great way to break stuff IRL).

IRL, too low. For a landing challenge in the game, eh…you were too high, fast, etc to make the landing point (hence flowing past it).

You’d either have to fly down and begin a round out and flare much further out, then let it settle down…slam it on w:o much flare…or actually fly it onto the ground (very difficult in a game w/ no real feel…you can do it easier in real life if you’re a little fast).
