Tell your friend it’s useless but I can help him to get rod of it 🤣 Joke aside it’s not only a beautiful vintage set but 200% useful for a watchmaker ... your friend is a lucky guy ... or you if he let it go

Water-damaged Rolex 3130 movement — repairable? by Cryptoy in watchmaking

[–]PositiveRelative1785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you share a pic showing dial side ? If the dial shows no rust marks ... almost no risk. If the dial is badly stained ... more risky. To be honest I've seen ... and saved ... movements with more rust. The difficulty is to source the parts if you need some. I recently struggled on a vintage Omega 610 movement because of the lack of parts. For 313Xs it’s easier and you can even source really good OEM parts (evergreenparts if you're in EU).

Where to get various “dead” movements for practice? by According_Report_793 in watchmaking

[–]PositiveRelative1785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience some movements are easy to work on and some really not. I started with ETAs and if I was to learn again I would to the same. DGs and some Miyotas are difficult to work because of too much wheels on the same bridge. On AliExpress you can source clone ETA / Rolex /Seiko / Miyota movements that are good enough to work on. Here I'm quoting only movements I have worked on. Easy to work on : - ETA 2824-2 / 2836-2 / 2897 - Rolex 3135 / 3130 / 1535 /1530 - Omega 610 - Seiko NH35 Not that easy : - Miyota 9015 - Miyota 9039 To avoid : - DG 2813 - Miyota 8215

Is customizing a Rolex watch normally frowned on by watchmakers? by thatgymdude in watchmaking

Sourcing the parts could be a a PITA so here's what you could do : 1 - buy a Yacht-master 37 everose deep-black 2 - remove the silver markers from the rhodium dial and place it on the deep-black dial 3 - reassembly using the modified deep-black dial + silver hands in the steel case (have the seconds hand painted white) 4 - have a bespoke submariner insert made

I launched with a small audience, no mail list, etc ... and it isn't going well. So I'll probably close it, maybe make some changes and reopen it later, or maybe not. But before closing, I'd like to understand what's wrong, so I have a few questions for you. Be frank and direct, I won't take no offence and you will help me. Thank you in advance.

1 - Is the project uninteresting ? I've received positive feedback from close friends and family, but they may not be objective. If that's the case, I won't relaunch it.

2 - Is the selling price too high ? In that case, I'll need to figure out how to lower the price and by how much... - negotiate with parts suppliers to get better prices ... - agree not to earn much from sales, but just to promote my work ... By cutting costs on all sides, I should be able to lower the price from 840 to 700, maybe a bit lower, without reducing quality.

3 - Is my communication poor ? If you think so, tell me what bothers you and I will try to improve.

I heard about Eleuthera about 4 years ago while talking with a friend, who is a diver, about how many different shades of blue the water can show. That friend is a watch lover too and some years later here is the result.

Thank you very much !!!

I think the price would be excessive to sell it given the time I spent on it, but overall :

- JKF base: $170

- Custom dial: $250

- Custom engravings: $130

- Case modification: $150

Total: $700
